Las Vegas filmmaker Edwin Ramirez (@edwinnramirez) is taking his momentum global, representing the city on an international stage as he travels to Lisbon, Portugal for the prestigious 48 Hour Film Project (@48hourfilmproject.) Fresh off his win at the Las Vegas 48 Hour Film Project (@lv48hourfilm) last September, Ramirez earned the opportunity to showcase his work among some of the most talented rapid-fire filmmakers from around the world. His winning film, “There’s Something in the Water,” captured attention for its sharp storytelling, atmospheric tension, and ability to fully realize a compelling narrative within the intense 48-hour time constraint. It’s the kind of project that embodies what makes the competition so powerful—raw creativity under pressure, where instinct, collaboration, and vision collide. Technically this is the final leg of the 48 Hour competition. But the winner in Portugal will get the opportunity to showcase their film in Cannes, France during the Cannes Film Festival Short Corner. Congratulations to Edwin and team Gallo Pinto. 11.18.24, I decided to delve into film. My only goal was to act in a short film, take part in a film festival, and see myself on the silver screen just to say “I did it.” Less than a year later, I reached those goals. I’ve acted in 3 short films and I have roles playing 2 different characters in an upcoming series. I became an executive producer and joined a full service production company. Two of the movies earned nominations with one winning 6 awards. To close the full circle, I was interviewed on the red carpet by the media page that sparked my initial desire. My sights are set on what I aim to accomplish by this time next year. But before I let go of the moment, I’d like to thank @btslv.vegas for staying true to the Las Vegas independent film community. Not only do your efforts light the path for us creatives, but it illuminates those who choose to walk it. Thank you @nicole_lupercio_ & @49hourfilmfestival for the passion and dedication. Thank you to @directedbyp and the @onthesetfilms family none of this is possible without you all. What an amazing weekend at the @49hourfilmfestival! I love how so many people come together for the thing we all love so much, film! Thank you to the 49 team for putting together a great festival. What an honor to be apart of such an amazing team! @onthesetfilms won 7 awards for “The Singing Canary”! And Best Short Film for “The Transition Room”! Editing The Singing Canary and The Transition Room was such a joy! I feel so lucky to work alongside such passionate and talented individuals who give their all to make something truly special. The talent in one room is unmatched. Truly from the writing to the acting to the post production, it was a unified effort to create such a gem within 49 hours!
