Eleanor Cowell (b. 1996) ( @eljoart ) is a London based artist who recently completed her MA in Fine Art at City and Guilds Art School ( @cglartschool ). Cowell was selected for the Longlist for the Jacksons Art Prize (both 2025 & 2026) and has participated in a number of group shows such as ‘30 by 30’ at Two plus Two ( @twoplustwo202 ) 2026, ‘Summer Crush’, curated by Seeing Loud (2025) and ‘At the Door’, curated by Coat ( @coat.collaborative ) at Safehouse (2025)

Her work explores the digital and human future through printmaking and painting. By fabricating boundless environments, Cowell considers how the groundlessness of the digital space relates to our sense of place. For the artist the duality between the optimism of technological advances and its societal impact is a point of tension, yet continually inspirational.

I am truly moved and overwhelmed by the response to my debut public sculpture and solo presentation of my work “RIP My Heterosexuality Which Died At The Family Computer” curated by the wonderful @james.in.culture and hosted by @thisisportals 💛

Thank you so so much for engaging with my work. I didn’t realise how much it would and could resonate with so many of you, I had hoped it would, but this experience has been so affirming as to why I feel so pulled to make the work that I do - even through moments of utter vulnerability and uncertainty it gets me somewhere new and I’m so glad you met me there.

To me, this show was my second chance of coming out. I wanted to campify it, to make it joyous and shared and outrageous as fuck. Because for me, and I know for many of you, that wasn’t the reality of realising we were queer and it wasn’t what we got when we came out. (Unlike my first time) Instead of-dragging her lifeless body around in desperate attempts to resurrect her, and after that denial followed sorrow and mourning. (This time) I bid my Heterosexuality a queer and fond farewell.

Thank you for being part of that, and thank you for taking the time to wish her all the best in the after life or wherever she may be now. But importantly, thank you to all of you that took this opportunity to do the same for yourself - because we all deserved better, so if we aren’t given it, we make it. I feel so lucky to get to reclaim that. So thank you for all the laughter, the vulnerability and the stories you have shared. Thank heavens for queer people and god save camp 🙌🏻

The work will be taken down on Tuesday morning so please make sure to visit before then. Open 24/7 at Spitalfields, Market Street until then. 💛

Next crit group: Tuesday 9th September, 7-8.30pm on Zoom 💫

DM to join! I’ll message you the Zoom link on the day. Anyone and everyone is welcome, come to meet a new community of makers and thinkers - we have all sorts of talented creatives in our gang, from chefs to poets, painters to comedians!

What’s a crit group?
A crit group is an informal chat where people are invited to share a creative project and receive constructive feedback. You don’t have to ‘be creative’ to join, we welcome anyone and everyone!

For more details see the FAQs on previous posts - feedback is aimed to be constructive rather than offensive, we do not tolerate discriminatory behaviour or language and such persons will be removed if so, we aim to keep Sober Circle a safe space :)

When we bought our home our furniture budget went straight into repairs we hadn’t planned for and once my maternity leave was over we made the decision for me to stay at home. It’s been slow progress furnishing the house as we’ve been trying to find secondhand pieces or items that we know will last for years and years while on a tight budget. I like to look at my house in little “corners” - focusing on a small spaces to work on before moving onto the next.

Outside these frames are chipped paint, some missing floor boards, boxes of items that need proper storage spaces and little repairs that have been sitting on a long to-do list. Feeling very grateful that we have our house and that I get to make it a home piece by piece.

The painting above the fireplace was done by my dear friend @eljoart as a wedding gift : it’s the bench Luke & I got engaged on. Getting it framed professionally is one of those to-do list items. ♥️
