Today, we said goodbye to our very good boy, Winston.
Winnie. Winifred. Winnie Pooper. Winn. Winston Churchill.
My little “Rufferee.”

He was a rescue who, in every way that matters, rescued us right back. For 14 years, he showed us what love looks like—steady, joyful, uncomplicated, and unconditional. He carried us through deep heartache and walked with us through some of the best seasons of our lives. He was the ultimate snuggler, the quiet comfort in the hardest moments, and the one who could make us laugh without even trying.

Winnie tolerated Chuck and Murph messing with him far more than any self-respecting dog should. He was my Zoom sidekick, perched on his chair and ottoman with his blanket like he owned the meeting. He was a fan favorite with my district pals and the catalyst of so many conversations. He simply brought out the best in everyone.

He loved his rides. Golf cart, Gator, car…didn’t matter. He let us dress him up purely for our own amusement (much to his mild annoyance). He was patient, loyal, witty in that dog-kind-of-way, and full of a goodness I’m not sure this world deserved.

We knew it was time. But knowing doesn’t make it hurt any less.
Tonight, my heart is broken.

This house has never known a day without Winston in it.
And tonight…it just doesn’t feel the same.

Rest easy, sweet boy. Thank you for every single day you gave us.

Well apparently National Daughter’s Day was yesterday, which means I’m already failing at another important internet fake holiday. Chalk it up to running around like a mad bandit (there is a punishment for taking vacation days…) And add in “Sick Kid Soup Fairy” to my mom resume, because sometimes love comes in Tupperware with a side of saltines and Zicam.

Ella, you are—without exaggeration— one-third of the best story I’ll ever tell. You’re the answer to prayers I didn’t even know how to pray, the source of laughs that sneak out when life feels heavy, the steady hum of grace in our house. You make me braver, funnier, and infinitely more patient (well… most days).

So here’s my belated shout-out, my darling girl: May you keep chasing every good thing, may you know your worth down to your bones, and may you never doubt that your mom would cross state lines with a tote bag full of soup just to prove it.

Happy (fashionably late) National Daughter’s Day. Yesterday, today, tomorrow—you’re my favorite girl. 💛

Thank you, travel softball, for the past 10 years. Countless games, practices, road trips, and memories I’ll never forget. Thank you to my coaches for always pushing me to grow, my family for being my biggest supporters, and my parents for driving me all over the place to chase this dream. I’ve been lucky to play alongside teammates who truly felt like family. Saying goodbye to travel ball is bittersweet, but I’m forever grateful for everything it’s given me. On to the next chapter!💙🐰💛#30

💙 Dear West Lyon #12,

You’ve been more than just a jersey.

We’ve spent a lot of time together in the laundry room, as I worked to clean the agri-lime, dirt, and sometimes blood from your threads. You’ve carried heartbreak and hard-fought battles, but you’ve also wrapped Ella in unforgettable joy, fierce pride, and friendships that will last a lifetime. Thanks for this last opportunity to watch her play in the Senior All Star Games, make some new friends she will see at the collegiate level, and watch her coach (and my former student) get District Coach of the Year. What a cap.

Saying goodbye to you is harder than we imagined—but it’s time.

We’ve got one more week as #10 for Catalyst, chasing greatness on the Louisville Slugger fields in Peoria. And then…

We root for #14. A Jackrabbit. 💛💙
A new number, a new journey—but the same heart.

With love,
A mom forever grateful for the ride.
