Senior Sunday 7 of 40 ❤️⚽️

You told me when you were eight years old that you were going to play soccer in college. You were so sure of it. And now here we are, your senior year, and that little eight-year-old girl is actually doing the thing she said she would do. 🥹

But there has been A LOT between eight and almost 18.

You’ve been overlooked. You’ve been misunderstood. You’ve played positions that didn’t always fit you or allow you to show what you could really do. We’ve had some really hard talks after some really hard days. I’ve watched you cry, question yourself, get frustrated, get back up and keep going.

And as your mom, I think that’s what I’m most grateful to this game for.

Soccer has given you opportunities to grow that everyday life just couldn’t have given you. I’ve watched you grow in wisdom and character. I’ve watched your faith deepen when things didn’t make sense. You’ve learned that you can’t control every coach, decision, opportunity or outcome, but you can control how hard you work, who you are in the hard moments and whether you keep showing up.

And then there are the people. ❤️

These three girls are the only three returning players from last year who didn’t graduate, and somehow all three have also earned themselves a concussion headband along the way. 😂 Today, against Heat Las Vegas, all three of them scored. There was something pretty special about watching that. Three girls who have been through a lot together, getting to share a moment like that during their senior season.

There have been so many girls along the way who have made this journey what it has been. Teammates who became best friends, families we never would have known without soccer, coaches who believed in you and even some of the hard experiences that taught you lessons we probably wouldn’t have chosen, but I know you needed.

I look at you now and still see that little eight-year-old girl.

Except now you’re almost 18. You’re playing your last club season. And you’re getting ready to go play college soccer, just like you always said you would.

What a ride it has been. And we aren’t done yet. ❤️
