One year ago, I experienced the most unforgettable duck hunt of my life. @tgrem and I decided to head out early, even though everyone else chose to sleep in. It was freezing, and before we could even reach the blind, the boat started giving us trouble. When we finally made it, the morning seemed like it had potential. But the birds had other plans. By 8 a.m., we hadn’t even flipped our safeties off.

We spent the quiet time catching up—something we hadn’t had the chance to do in a while. That’s when I heard a group of specks overhead. I turned to Taylor and said, “Watch this,” as I tried to mimic a speck call with my mouth—something I’d only pulled off successfully once before. To our surprise, a group of six specks flew in. I took a shot, and before we knew it, I’d brought one down. It was a rare moment because we hardly ever shoot geese in Grand Lake.

But what made that day truly special wasn’t the hunt or the goose—it was what happened when we got back to the camp. Taylor pulled me aside and asked me a question I’ll never forget: he wanted me to be Amelia Jane Gremillion’s godfather. I tried my best to hold back the tears as I told him I’d be honored.

Since that day, I’ve watched Amelia become Taylor’s entire world, and I’ve already learned so much from him about being a great dad. I can’t wait to watch her grow into the amazing girl I’m so proud to call my goddaughter.
