In the past year, I lived. I mean, I really lived. Last year, I wrote about falling in love with life. This year, I stopped simply talking about it and threw myself headfirst into it. I stopped waiting for the perfect time, stopped asking for permission, and stopped allowing other people’s opinions to decide what my life should look like. I just did it. I went skydiving. I traveled, went on adventures, stayed out too late, laughed until I cried, took too many pictures, and made memories I will tell stories about forever. I lived it up with my friends, loved my people loudly, and celebrated things that probably did not even require a celebration. I let myself be young, ridiculous, spontaneous, and completely alive. I lived big this year. I did the things that scared me, ignored the opinions that did not matter, and stopped shrinking myself to make other people comfortable. I became less afraid of looking foolish and more afraid of reaching the end of my life knowing I did not fully live it. I stopped apologizing for being loud, caring deeply, dreaming big, and taking up space. I realized that the people who truly love me have never wanted a quieter or smaller version of me. They love the girl who talks too much, laughs too loudly, feels everything, and can make a story out of absolutely anything. So yes, I stopped caring about what people had to say—not in a careless way, but in a freeing way. I stopped handing people who were not living my life the power to control it. This year did not make me fearless. It made me brave. Fearless means nothing scares you. Brave means you are scared, uncertain, or completely unprepared—and you do it anyway. And this year, I did it anyway. Twenty-one taught me that I do not want a life that only looks good from the outside. I want one that feels good while I am living it. I want a life filled with stories, belly laughs, adventures, people I adore, and moments when I stop and think, “I cannot believe this is my life.” Last year, I fell in love with life. This year, I lived the dang thing.
