READ THIS IF YOU LOVE VANCOUVER HIP HOP

From the very beginning of the very beginning @miuseeq has been a massive part of the spirit of this movement.

Near end of the pandemic when we started meeting up every week to rap in the park, Tes Miuseeq was a huge influence on the structure that our community developed. At the time he was running massive Spanish rap battles all over town and he and the @vancouver_latin_freestyle would hold meetings and carefully prepare their events. They would turn a living room, basement, restaurant, skatepark into a packed venue with no budget, just passion and enthusiasm.

Seeing how these people took it upon themselves to fill the void in the entertainment scene in Vancouver was a massive inspiration to everyone on the front and back end of @icon.hiphop

Let me preface this next statement; Vancouver hip hop has had many peaks and valleys over the years and at times, legendary artists and organizers have made incredible things happen for long periods of time and everything we’re experiencing now is build on the shoulders of giants.

That said, when we started, Vancouver hip hop was wack af and the first resurgence of real hip hop culture was introduced to our community by latinos from all over the world. Battle rap, street cyphers and other elements are flourishing in the Spanish speaking world in ways that North America has never experienced at such scale.

I think it’s really interesting how a culture that was conceived in New York can evolve for years, spread across the globe to Latin America, then make its way up here to reignite the Vancouver hip hop scene in a skate park in October of 2021.

Go wish @miuseeq a happy birthday because he was instrumental in that process.
