It was 2026. The last day in August. A Sunday, at that.

It was the summer of ’26. The Knicks had just won their first championship in 53 years, and everyone—EVERYONE in New York—was walking a little taller.

Earlier that day, we were in Brooklyn developing some film. Something told me to stop by my friend Demetri’s shop, @peterpandonut , right around the corner. As I drove by, I noticed a film crew outside. They were shooting a documentary about Knicks fans.

They asked me to step up to the mic and say a few words. Honestly, I hesitated. How could I? There were fans who had waited decades longer than I had for this moment. Fans who had lived through heartbreak after heartbreak, always believing next year would be the year.

But I stepped up and spoke from the heart.

Because this championship is about more than basketball. It’s about faith. Patience. Showing up year after year when there’s no guarantee it’ll ever pay off.

There’s a lesson in that. When all seems lost, don’t get caught staring at the scoreboard. Take the next step. Make the next play. Chip away. Stay locked in. Sometimes that’s all you can do.

Fifty-three years later, it was enough.

Here’s to you, New York. And here’s to our @nyknicks
