Baletna predstava Pepelka klasično pravljico prinaša v današnji svet, prežet z družbenimi pritiski in lažno bleščavo, v katerem mlado dekle išče svoj prostor in identiteto.

Pepelke ne vidimo pospravljati pepela, marveč povsod nagrmadena oblačila, ki jih v trgovinah nenehno naročata polsestri. Soočeni smo s potrošniškim slogom življenja, ki smo mu priča danes: s hitro modo, nenehnim kopičenjem stvari in njihovim še hitrejšim metanjem stran. Kar posedujemo, ima zelo kratek rok trajanja.

I only spent a short time there, but I enjoyed it to the fullest. Barcelona and its people have won a big piece of my heart, and it’s no wonder.

However, the greatest gift I received yesterday was at the dance gala at the Liceu Theatre. People not only from Catalonia itself but also from the rest of the peninsula and beyond were aware of this gift that fell from heaven.

I want to give, of course, a special thank you to my dearest Gareth Haw and Sangeun Lee, whose hugs and kind words filled every corner of my soul. Needless to say, when I saw Julie Kent, absolute royalty of ABT, I thought my heart was going to stop. She was exactly as I had imagined her: a great lady and a beautiful person.

Moving on to the performance itself; it was a complete delight.

@davidgarcialucas and the great @konovalovaliudmila opened with The Nutcracker, choreographed by @valentinozucchetti (for those who don’t know, first soloist of the Royal Opera House). It was a choreography with nuances that evoked childhood memories, and it also featured an extraordinary sugar fairy. Liudmila, not surprisingly, has tackled the choreography of none other than Rudolf Nureyev at the Vienna State Opera.

Manon with @riohirano and Yuriko Kajiya (who had to replace Sarah Lamb and, on top of that, relearn the choreography with a different dance partner) was thrilling. Ryoichi is one of those dancers who, in my humble opinion, deserves more recognition for his long career and the great versatility he displays in different roles. Yuriko Kajiya is a GODDESS, and I have to put it in capital letters because, while I already knew this dancer had a great reputation, it was incredible to witness it in person. A tandem that I hope, in the not-too-distant future, can be reunited.
