I remember the first time I realized the world didn’t want to hear my voice.
I was speaking.
And some man cut me off mid-sentence.

“Relax sweetheart.”

It didn’t stop there.

I’ve been talked over.
They discounted my opinion
I’ve turned around and caught men pointing at my body like I wasn’t a person.

In 10th grade, the boys passed around nudes like currency, attaching girls’ names to nudes that weren’t even theirs.

Mine included.

I’ve been sexually assaulted.

And a sideways joke at work,
“I knew you were a whore”

It’s everywhere.
You never hear about it.

These moments happen quickly

No one stops the conversation.
No one corrects it

And slowly the world tells you your voice doesn’t matter

The world doesn’t respect you.

But it’s a complicated world, and that’s not the whole truth

There has never been a moment that speaking up has felt natural

Because I wouldn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable like they did to me

But

If I kept waiting for it to feel natural
I would stay quiet forever.

So I started speaking anyway.

It was one of the hardest things to do

I had to earn it. To be respected,

While men almost have it handed to them

I had to decide I was more than what the world tried to reduce me to.

But I didn’t do it for me.I did it for the girls. I watched by my side, experiencing the same exact things…

We are are more than a body.
More than a rumor.
More than someone easy to interrupt.

These pictures feel powerful.

Men have no idea how hard of a fight it was to be respected

And to stay respected?

This one’s for the girls.

I speak up now because I remember what it felt like to be the girl who thought she couldn’t.

One woman chooses to believe she deserves space — and the girls watching start to believe it too.

You get to be whoever you want to be.

Never let the world define you

it’s the biggest thing that drives me

Showing the younger generations and younger me, that the world really does want to hear from us

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY BABY! We are stronger than what happens to us!
