POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

If there’s one thing our culture prizes, it’s control. We’re surrounded by tools and technologies promising us the ability to shape our lives exactly as we wish (delivered meals, on-demand entertainment, instant answers, etc.). Yet, beneath this drive for mastery is an age-old tension: are we truly in control, or are we invited to trust in something, or Someone, greater?

In this week's teaching, Pastor Ellis explored how the way of Jesus stands in stark contrast to our culture of control. The story of humanity’s struggle with control goes all the way back to Genesis 3, where the serpent’s temptation was essentially, “You can be like God. You can take control.” This same temptation lingers today, whispering that we can secure happiness, provision, and even identity if we just hold on tighter.

But Jesus offers something different. In Matthew 7, He speaks of a “narrow road” that leads to life. That road is a path few find because it requires surrender, not self-mastery. Following Jesus isn’t just about having our sins forgiven for some distant future. It’s about learning a new way of life, here and now, shaped by ongoing consent to God’s shaping hand.

Where is God inviting you to trust Him instead of taking control this week?

What if the hardest moments of your life aren't punishment, but a battlefield you never knew existed?

In the teaching this week, Pastor Ellis walked through the raw, poetic heart of Job's story—a blameless man falsely accused, surrounded by friends who became his worst critics. Just as Jesus bore blame He never deserved, Job's story foreshadows a Savior who took every accusation to the grave and left it there. Sometimes it can be so easy to jump to conclusions or blame the hurting instead of sitting with them. God is calling us to a new way of living that challenges us to think about our life and the lives of those around us differently. That includes seasons of joy and blessing, as well as darkness and struggle.

So, the next time a friend is struggling, how can you choose presence over answers?
How can we make choices to become a people who help and heal rather than blame and shame?

Will you be the kind of friend Job needed—or the kind that drives people deeper into despair?

What if your deepest suffering isn't punishment but proof of God's trust in you? Job, declared blameless by God himself, lost everything in 48 hours—yet his greatest wounds came from friends who blamed him for his pain. Pastor Ellis reveals how we become terrible comforters, escalating from silence to blame to shame, making up false accusations against hurting people. Like Job's friends, we scapegoat others because if blameless people suffer, what hope do we have?

But Job's hope pierces through: "I know my Redeemer lives"—speaking Christmas and Easter thousands of years before Jesus.
