"I'm proud to be me, I'm proud to be Ellmarie"

She carried a spare arm to school in a bag. 🎒
She flew solo to the other side of the world at 26.
She canoed 150km of unfamiliar rapids with a paddle she'd used exactly once.

Meet @elmarieeeee — @mountaineering_ireland ambassador, mountain biker, and the walking definition of "have the courage to try."

Ellie lost her arm in a childhood accident. She could have let that be the whole story. Instead, she made it page one of a much bigger one — hiking, mountain biking, and eventually walking the entire 3,000km Te Araroa Trail across New Zealand, solo, over four and a half months.

In this episode we talk about:
🔥 The years spent hiding her arm — and the moment she stopped
🔥 Building a one-handed paddle solution from scratch, days before flying out
🔥 Rolling her ankle in the trail's most "dangerous" section — and rebuilding
🔥 Why the loneliest-sounding adventure became the most connected experience of her life

This one will genuinely change how you think about what "ready" means.

I recently had the privilege of working with @brian.ok to capture the stories of the amazing people who live and work on the Galtee mountains as part of a special project for @ballyhouracountry

The Galtee Mountains are a Special Area of Conservation with over 60km² designated as a protected upland site. They feature vital habitats including active blanket bog, alpine heath and species-rich Nardus grassland which support rare arctic-alpine plants and significant bird species.

🍯 First up was the incredible Aoife of @galteehoneyfarm - a lady whose passion is the preservation of the native black Irish honey bee and serving customers with delicious wildflower honey which her bees make from ivy and heather found on the mountains

💧 Then we met Caroline from @yogawalksireland who leads truly one-of-a-kind experiences through the Galtee woodlands and hillsides and shares beautiful stories about what makes the waters of the local Attychraan River magical

💚 Bryce took us on a e-bike adventure through the road tracks on the mountain, stopping to explain the intricacies of a simple stone wall and their significance to mountain farmers over generations

🎨 If Bryce is the adventurous spirit of the mountain, his partner @deirdredunneartist is the eyes and the soul: Deirdre paints the landscape and the animals she finds on the mountainside in her unique style and invites you in to enjoy a class experience with her

🥾 Last but most certainly not least, one of our local, professional mountain guides is Maureen O’Brien. If you’d like to explore the Galtees safely, with local stories and some consideration for this special area of conservation; one of the best things you can do is to hire a local guide to get you there

With thanks to @ballyhouracountry for supporting vibrant rural communities and @elmarieeeee for inspiring the next generation of advocates #regenballyhoura

There’s no place like home ☘️
