- For all the hype and information about Lagos, there are still thousands of stories that have not been told about this city. What are the origins of its two names? (Lagos: Portuguese and Eko: Yoruba). How did it become one of the most dominant ports in Africa and what are the cultures that make up this populous city?

Lagos is a city both glorious and marred; comparable to a pot boiling, bringing forth a sweet-smelling aroma but with the chance of its contents spilling over and spoiling the dish. With our first issue of the ìrìn journal, we want to pay homage to our home city and shed a different light on its history, its culture, its people and its food.

In general we are looking for well researched articles, stories from the past, interviews, profiles, features, photo essays and illustrations that tell the story of Lagos. Some specific story formats include: - a Travel Guide to a location shortly outside of Lagos
- Features on a nascent/underground sport or music scene
- An Expats Guide to discovering Lagos
- Essay on Spirituality and Lagos
- Portrait photography/interview/essay on communities or generations in Lagos i.e. the Lebanese, Italians etc
