Alexander McQueen is honoured to support The 90s: Art and Fashion, the first major exhibition to explore the decade, which was characterised by its bold creativity and rebellious spirit. Curated by Edward Enninful OBE, the exhibition will examine how this era changed the face of British culture. As the Cold War ended and Britain began to emerge from recession, a new dawn of optimism, freedom and rebellion arrived, epitomised by a new generation of diverse creative talent. This sense of boundless opportunity resulted in art, design, fashion and music fusing into one potent cultural force.

Alexander McQueen, founded by Lee Alexander McQueen in London in 1992, emerged during this defining decade in British fashion and culture. Having trained on London’s Savile Row and at Central Saint Martins, McQueen united the precision of British tailoring and craftsmanship with a subversive and uncompromising creative vision. His work challenged convention and resonated far beyond fashion, reflecting the rich dialogue between art, culture and creative expression that characterised the 1990s.

As part of its support of the exhibition, Alexander McQueen has loaned a selection of archival looks from its seminal 1990s runway shows. Presented in dialogue with influential artworks and cultural voices, these pieces offer a rare opportunity to experience the house’s early work within the wider creative landscape of a decade that shaped fashion history.

With the new Vogue lightroom exhibition just launched, it has been a big reminder of this extraordinary show I worked on. This dress being one of the most magnificent creations I was lucky to be a part of - Designed by the great Alexander McQueen. I heavily boned the whole skirt so it would defy gravity and hold up all those feathers. The glass slides were hand painted individually for hours by an army of dedicated assistants. Lee said to me ‘it looks heavy’ and I suggested we cut half the side of the bodice out. The next day we did and suddenly everything came into balance. Erin O’conor elevated this piece into a different dimension - it was truly incredible to witness. ♥️

THE WALK
Merchant Archive @merchantarchive

Another collection film we concepted and created with Charlie Targett-Adam’s for Merchant Archive.

The Walk is an amble through the childhood home of Sophie Merchant on the Quantock Hills in Somerset.
Fabrics and prints together with shapes concerned with volume and movement take us on this journey.

An accumulation of colour and texture layer along the walk, Swiss cut out embroidery makes reference to the pebbles on the driveway. Delicate bandage gauze in petal pink is combined with heavy silk in vibrant green mirroring the gardens’ palette. An explosion of hand printed roses typical of a beautiful English country garden, are emblazoned onto structured raffia, while a heavy white blank canvas, has a lone hare sketched onto it serving as a darker motif amongst the pleasant tranquillity. Evolving and reforming the archive, the collection is conceived in exquisite cloth, exceptionally made.

The MA girl is interested and interesting, she is present and wise, dark and effortlessly light.
