🚨 MUSEUM ACQUISITION 🚨

We are ECSTATIC to announce Feia’s first museum placement of this incredible painting by Charles Hickey (@charles__hickey) to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (@pafacademy), the first and oldest museum and art school in the United States.

First shown at @elsewhere.fair in Philadelphia (organized by @blahblahgallery and hosted at @helloyowie), Hickey’s “Bundle Brother Branch” specifically responds to Raphaelle Peale’s “Fox Grapes and Peaches”, which also sits within the PAFA collection. This relationship between contemporary visual language, material innovation, and art historical canon is the centerpiece of Hickey’s practice.

We are so grateful to Jeff Rubio (@jeffrubio) for his generous support of this acquisition, alongside his championing of both emerging artists and galleries like ours, while also maintaining his own impressive art practice. Thank you so much Jeff, this would not have been possible without you.

We’d also like to extend our gratitude to Leah Triplett (@leah_triplett) for stewarding this piece through the acquisition process, and the rest of the PAFA team responsible for taking care of the work. Thank you also to Megan Galardi (@megangalardi) at Blah Blah for organizing such a wonderful fair experience, and everyone else who got behind this project and spammed Leah with texts (including @mark.a.rosen @aemccollum @roksana_filipowska and more). We are humbled by all your support and proud to have crossed the finish line for you all.

Finally, we extend endless and infinite appreciation to Charles himself, for trusting Feia with his astounding work AND for jumping right back into the studio to produce an unbelievable, yet very real, body of work that will be on view at Untitled Art, Houston (@untitledartfairs) in just a couple of days.

As always, more to come.

Thank you Laura Sallade and @sensusphilly for including Kelly-McKenna Gallery and paintings by @kelcmack in “Elsewhere Art Fair Defies Neutrality”, reflecting on the experience of encountering art throughout @elsewhere.fair at @helloyowie.

Writing about Kelcie Mack’s Still Life with Rocking Chair #3, Sallade describes Mack’s paintings as “an index of color and form,” and considers the intimate relationship between the work, its surroundings, and the viewer.

Kelcie Mack is a contemporary painter whose work centers on abstracted depictions of furniture, exploring the familiar relationships we form with objects and their makers. Through color, structure, negative space, and form, her paintings draw attention to craftsmanship while reconsidering the everyday objects that quietly shape our domestic lives.

We’re grateful to have been part of Elsewhere Art Fair’s inaugural Philadelphia edition and to see Kelcie’s work highlighted among the fair’s presentations.

In less than 48 hours, I will be back in Philadelphia for a three day visit! Woo!!! In honor of this upcoming art writing trip, I wanted to share my video slideshow of the highlights from Elsewhere Fair, a new art fair in Philadelphia that debuted earlier in the month at the Yowie Hotel on South Street (which, coincidentally, is where I will be staying). Like last October, this trip is going to be part of a feature in Whitehot Magazine, so I will be devoting more commentary on Elsewhere Fair in that essay along with the myriad other exhibitions & events I will see in the next few days. Cannot wait!!!

Bravo to everyone involved in Elsewhere for putting together such an incredible fair with a stellar selection of artists and galleries from within and beyond Philly!
