Happy international day of the girl child. Today we advocate and expose young girls to the possibilities in them while giving them the space to explore Science,Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) through the Techno Optimism: shifting culture in STEM book. Thank you to our sponsors @engrl.co @elsgineer and @voacharity for the support, believe and for sharing the vision of STEM and girls education

“I just didn’t know what engineering was and what it had to offer.” 💗

Elisabeth Eweka didn’t grow up with a perfectly mapped-out plan to become an engineer. She loved art, she loved maths, and somewhere along the way, she fell into a world much bigger than she realised.

Fire engineering. Water. Sustainability. Lighting. Acoustics. Building services. Careers she simply hadn’t known existed.

Now a Principal Digital Consultant and founder of ENGRL, Elisabeth is making those paths easier for other women to see.

In Pretty Smart Issue 028, we talk about falling into engineering, why there is no “engineering uniform”, building confidence, knowing when ambition doesn’t need to be a sprint and why sometimes you really do just have to go for it.

As Elisabeth puts it:

“In every single situation, just go for it.”

Surprise! To end the year, it finally felt right to put a face to ENGRL 💛😅
This month’s Engineer of the Month is… me! ✨

I built ENGRL because I never saw anyone who looked like me in engineering spaces. Now, I get to help make sure the next generation does. 💡

Watching this community grow into a global space for girls in STEM has been one of the biggest honours ever! 🥺

Here’s to more visibility, more representation, and more girls becoming the engineers they never knew they could be 💛

Thank you for being part of this movement - we’re just getting started! ✨

p.s. I’ve also launched my own page to share more about my engineering journey - follow @elsgineer for more!👷🏾‍♀️💡
