Since the beginning of winter we have been tinkering away behind the scenes diligently collecting all peels, cores, skins and other 'waste' vegetable matter to create litres of natural dye, not content with just sending it all to the compost, just yet. Hero products have been the 'Zinger' water kefir which gives us a deep autumnal mix of soaked coriander seeds and turmeric. Our 'Winter Kraut' offers a mountain of red cabbage off cuts and onion skin. With a creative and productive steer from Daniela Woods and @howl_wear (Lucy Crago) we have crafted a small run of organic cotton shoppers, complete with jar and bottle compartments. Each one hand designed, stitched and sewn and passed from one home to another to be hand dyed and pressed, then on to @elusivepress_screenprint for screen printing - these will be for sale in the Fermentary over the coming weeks.

We aim to repurpose as much as we can post-ferment and would love to meet other collaboraters inspired by reducing waste, be that working with vegetable dye or in the culinary field - think kefir soaked figs, lemon rinds and grated ginger, garlic skins, spring onion ends and beetroot soaked thyme.
