CHAPTER 2.0 GALLERY STACII SAMIDIN, We come from far away, I want to move, just like my ancestors traveled their routes. Years go by quickly, stories grow bigger and I am still grateful that I can archive stories in my way. That is why this part of the celebration of 18 years of Societies is so important. The chapter that is about giving back and therefore growing together. The chapter in which I open my archives and want to share them with you. We are getting closer to the end of the construction of the Gallery, let's build together. Building roads without borders where we break down the stereotypical image of human and identity. Ecstatic to announce im working alongside renowned Netherlands documentary photographer Stacii Samidin and his intern n my bestfriend, Tyler Chan to finish this out period. Stacii has been an inspiration to my artistic work from the day I started off at Willem de Kooning Academie. His project Societies has and still is a huge reference in aesthetics and storytelling.

In the heart of an island, where rhythms sway, the dream of Carnival begins its story. A vibrant burst of colors, A story weaving of resilience without failure. An Indo-Caribbean, with deep roots, Brings forth a vision, a story to share. Of the white bird, a symbol to keep, A messenger of wisdom in the sky. Like a phoenix, she rises from the past, Carrying the legacy of those who came before. Connecting the living and gathered souls, Continuity of life, forever. During the celebration, the diaspora unites, Honors their culture, heal pain, Saying goodbye to chains, embrace new heights. Breaking free from lingering trauma. Her eyes adorned with feathers, pure and white. Symbols of love, peace and divine protection, showing the way in the darkest night. Her presence, an angelic connection. Yet there were those who wanted to restrain her, To clip her wings and silence her flight, But the white bird, she could not be tamed. Her spirit floated, an unyielding light. Voices stolen from long-forgotten ancestors, God, angels and relatives gave strength and grace, Wisdom and guidance in the marathon of life, Their legacy woven through time and space. On God's stage, prepared for souls to shine, spiritual wisdom unfolds like a rose, Barachiel showered with divine blessings, While the crowd pour roses and love. Feathers, once symbols of African lore, Speak of rebirth and spirits fleeing, In modern Carnival, their presence hovers, Igniting joy, dancing through the night. My work "Long odds" is currently exhibited in Pinni 47 in Tampere, Finland. Thank you a lot to everybody who participated in this project❤️ Climate change is changing our world drastically and only focusing on making more money through destruction will get us nowhere. However, it is easier to ignore these facts in "economically strong countries". In the beginning of the Covid pandemic people for example in Germany did not believe they could be affected, and not just “third world countries”. Once they realised their own health and of their loved ones was at risk, they started caring. I want to play with this thought of Ignorance and the effects climate change already has or will have on our bodies in the future. With covid we “only” had to wear a face mask but what if someday we have to protect our bodies even more? I want to show how the future daily life might look like. I like to take a sarcastic approach because Sarcasm is something not everybody is able to recognize – the same way not everybody seems to recognize the urgency of climate change.
