Build a business. Make room for life. ⛳️

Big thanks to the @emajingolf crew @allan_haughie_golf for having me at the golf day at @linkshopeisland Hope Island. It was a full room of golf-obsessed business owners, which meant I was talking to people who already understand that the best rounds come from patience, process and not forcing every shot. Great to hit a ball as well 😃

Over the last 15 years I’ve been involved in 20+ businesses: building them, scaling them, and sitting on both the buy and sell side of deals. The pattern I see over and over is the same one I lived myself:
→ 24-hour control and the constant blocker in my own business
→ The business was my identity
→ “Build now, live later, once I get there”

So I rebuilt differently. Since then I’m 10x better off, in money and in happiness.

My new rules:
✅ Measure your metrics daily: breakeven, cash and the few numbers that matter
✅ Choose your partners carefully, because who you build with decides how far you go and how happy you are on the way
✅ Build the business around your life, not the other way round

Here’s what sitting on the buy side teaches you: the businesses worth the most are the ones that don’t need the owner. Building it that way is how you get your time back, and it’s also how you build value.

Get the business working for you, then go and play the back nine. 🏌️‍♂️

Thanks to everyone who came up afterwards for a chat. Keep the conversations coming.

Make your introduction so interesting that people cannot help but remember you!

At our recent @emajingolf Black & Platinum Member Dinner at Verde, I introduced every member with a funny story or interesting fact about them.

Everyone got to agree, disagree or challenge what I’d written, and the conversations were hilarious! 😂

Even after years of knowing each other, we learnt something new.

That’s what networking is about. Knowing the person behind the business!

What’s the most interesting introduction you’ve heard?

First impressions matter, and that’s why I record a personalised video to welcome every single new member to @emajingolf

I used to meet new members for a coffee, but with so many new people joining from all over the country, I now introduce myself on camera to outline how this incredible community works.

It brings me closer to the new members, and makes them feel seen and become part of our community from the very beginning.

How do you make your customers feel special?

One of my favourite parts of building the @emajingolf community is getting to know our members, so we had a bit of fun with this the other day. 😂

I answered a few light-hearted questions about our Emajin members, from who’s most likely to call me on the weekend to who might get a hole-in-one or who refers business to other members.

Yes, it’s for fun, but it really shows that our strong community is all about our members, how they show up, how they support each other and the energy they bring.

Do you agree with my answers? Let me know!

Fairways, NRL legends, and a hole sponsored by us. Not a bad day at the office ⛳

Proud to be part of the Emajin x Levels Golf Day - one of the best networking events on the calendar.

Business is built on relationships. And relationships are built on the golf course 😉

Highs and lows at Woodlands GC on Tuesday
The high: a birdie
The low: a snowman on a par 5 (we don’t talk about it)

Played Woodlands Golf Club with the @emajingolf crew, alongside Pete, Brad and Patrick. Legends, all three. The course was properly challenging, and the work the club is putting into it really shows.

The best part was 18 holes of talking business with people who get it.

And the cherry on top: bumping into Carlton great Stephen Kernahan in the clubhouse. As a lifelong Blues fan, it was a real thrill to say g’day.

Golf is where some of my best business conversations happen. More of these, please.
