Audition jitters got you down? 😬

Check out these tips from our Shakespeare Gym Workshop, led by Richard’s directors Sam & Em:

• Bringing yourself into heightened language will bring the language alive. In other words, don’t just read the words on the page! Be sure that you understand what the text means and identify what (and HOW) your character is trying to reach their goal.

• Count your syllables! Lines with 11 syllables or more often point to emotional heightening for the character, and even can be seen as the character zooming out of their own perspective and seeing their circumstances in a broader view.

• No one in Shakespeare is expecting themselves to monologue, even in soliloquy. The character is always trying to communicate something specific and they are interrupting their own thoughts or supplementing their own thoughts with more information/intention. Where might you be interrupting yourself or interjecting?

You’ve got this! Break a leg!🦵
