El abuelo Tito.

Ochenta y siete años. Aliento de ron con coca (la primera bebida que aprendí a preparar). Alma de pirata. Una estela de loción anuncia su llegada antes que sus pasos. Hoy sus ojos se llenan de agüita con facilidad y mi nombre se le pierde entre los recuerdos. Pero nunca olvida despedirme con un beso y aconsejarme que hable con Dios.

Cuando miro a mi abuelo, no veo los años. Veo un capitán. Uno de esos que conocen el mar porque han aprendido a quererlo en calma y a respetarlo cuando ruge.

Cuando Tito visita el mar, es como si regresara a casa.

Hay capitanes que conquistan mares. Y hay otros, mucho más extraordinarios, que conquistan generaciones.

Ojalá pudiera asomarme a sus ojos y descubrir el horizonte que él descubrió hace tantos años.

Mi pirata cumplió 87 años navegando. Y cuando llegue el día en que no vea su barco, seguiré mirando al horizonte. Porque quien aprende a amar el mar sabe que los barcos nunca desaparecen: sólo llegan primero al siguiente puerto.

On an island so small, your co-workers become friends, family, drinking partners, neighbours and just those idiots you can't seem to get rid of at almost any hour of every day, but without them life here wouldn't be the same!!

Bonds are formed quickly over our love for the ocean and alcoholic beverages in the sun.

Truly grateful to call this place home and these beautiful people family.🙏❤️

I can’t even begin the describe how incredible the past month of my life has been. Traveling has always been something I have dreamt of doing my whole life, I just never felt like it was ever the “right time” to do it. Making the choice to fly to the opposite side of the world alone was one of the easiest decisions I have ever made, and hands down one of the most rewarding. Experiencing life alone, while simultaneously living alongside so many strangers who have become friends is something unlike anything I have ever done before. To be able to immerse myself in a country so diverse in geography, nature, and culture brought so many new perspectives to my life. I can’t even begin to describe the gratitude and warmth I feel when I think about the privilege of this journey, alongside meeting some of the most amazing people.

When I got to New Zealand, I would listen to a lot of Lorde, my favorite Kiwi artist. Although I have always LOVED her Solar Power album, nothing quite beat the feeling of listening to It while feeling the New Zealand sun against my skin, and the saltwater that lingered on my lips and in my hair from the ocean. I decided that I would try to make my own music video for the Title Track of the album, as a reminder of the feeling I had adventuring around this beautiful corner of the world. Thank you all for the kind wishes and words I have received on my endless supply of Instagram stories, I am sure there will be many more to come! This year will be all about new beginnings, adventures, and relationships, and I truly cannot wait to see what else the beautiful life has in store for me! Thank you 💗
