The best news I’ve received this year arrived via a phone call two days after we lost our beautiful Charli ‘Bubbles’. This week alone has been a rollercoaster, and I’d like to thank Hachette @hachetteaus and the Emerging Writers Festival @emergingwriters for giving me one of the highs.

Harvest is so incredibly close to my heart, and my anger, and regardless of what happens I know the women in these pages will find their way out somehow.

Congratulations to all the shortlisters! There are so many interesting concepts and genres present, and I feel honoured to be listed alongside you.

@emergingwriters in melbourne this year invited me to perform at their Closing Night Litfair event and perform a piece about the words 'How long is Forever'

This is the piece, recorded by Flossy so its a bit wobbly 😆

Our live episode at The Wheeler Centre for the National Writers Conference and Emerging Writers Festival was THE BEST!

Not only was it a fantastic rare opportunity for all three of us to be together in person, but we also got to welcome @toni_jordan_writer to the team as our Agony Aunt! She answered listener questions and live Q’s from the audience and, boy, did Toni have some gems of inspiration for us?!

In this clip, Toni gives her one top tip for writers - there is room for you, there is room for your stories, there is room for your voice and you’re adding something to the world by contributing to it 👏

Beautifully said, Toni 💛

Thanks again to Toni for jointing us, @emergingwriters for inviting us and @wheelercentre for accompanying us and providing our tech and to all the wonderful The Book Deal listeners who sent in the questions and turned up in person ⭐️

LIVE at the Emerging Writers Festival! Listen in to this very special ep of The Book Deal, recorded LIVE at the Wheeler Centre as part of the National Writers Conference. We were joined by the ever-incredible, @toni_jordan_writer who played the role of Agony Aunt perfectly!

Toni very generously and honestly answered listener questions, as well as on-the-spot audience questions. And the sesh was closed out by a chaos round, where Madeleine kept a tight time limit and threw curly questions at Toni, Natasha and Tina. Some topics covered included:
- rejections! Is it time to stop writing?
- do I tell people I’m writing about them?
- are publishers giving enough support to their authors?
- my work is unique - why do I have to use comp titles?
- how do I tackle self promotion?
- how to I change agents?
- when can I quit my day job?
- do I need an agent?
- do I need social media?
- should I publish short stories before a full novel?
- should friends give writing feedback?
- is it ok to use AI in writing?
- should I pitch my work to a publisher if I run in to them?
- should I read Goodreads reviews?
- what is your writing highlight so far?
And more!!!

It was a lot of fun, there were a lot of laughs and it’s an ep not to be missed!

Thank you @emergingwriters for inviting us and @wheelercentre for accommodating us and providing this recording and to the audience that turned up to support us! And of course, @toni_jordan_writer for being an incredible agony aunt. What a blast!

And our Debut Spotlight this week is Erica Lee and her memoir, ‘The Bond Between Us’, published by @hawkeyepublishing
