Isometric exercises are used in early tendon rehabilitation and in post-operative protocols because they allow force production without joint movement. This makes them suitable when tissue irritability is high or when surgical guidelines restrict range of motion.

Isometrics create measurable, repeatable tension in the tendon while minimizing mechanical stress on surrounding structures. They can decrease pain through neuromodulatory effects, maintain baseline strength, and prepare the tissue for later phases that require concentric and eccentric loading. The absence of joint motion also reduces the risk of provoking inflammation or disrupting healing tissue.

In post-operative timelines, isometrics serve as the first exposure to load. They help restore motor recruitment, establish tolerance to tension, and provide a controlled environment for monitoring patient response. Progression is typically based on duration, intensity, and symptom behavior rather than increasing complexity or range.

This makes isometrics a reliable starting point when introducing load to a healing tendon.

Huge congrats to all participants of last night’s Boxing Influencers boxing event! You all worked so hard physically and mentally to get to this point. Regardless of the outcome, mad respect for showing up and bringing the fight! 💪 Unfortunately the fight didn’t end in a manner you’d want to see. Wishing Melvin and family all the best and no doubt we’ll get you back on your feet again — ush!

Every action on the ice starts with the ground.
In pair skating, the mans’ role is to turn that ground contact into usable energy for lifts, throws, and synchronized jumps.

Deceleration is not wasted. When catching or absorbing his partner’s landing, tissues act like springs—storing energy that can be redirected into the next movement. If the chain collapses, he ends up muscling the lift instead of transmitting force.

The trunk is the bridge. Without stiffness and timing, leg drive never reaches the arms. Strong legs and strong arms mean little if the connection in between leaks.

Efficient transfer follows a clear sequence: ground contact to load, transition into hip and leg drive, trunk stability to channel, and release through the arms. When done right, it looks effortless, even though the mechanics are exacting.

Authority in this role comes not from strength alone but from mastering energy transfer. The skater becomes the foundation of efficiency, power, and safety for the pair.

The Vegetative Nervous System and Recovery

The autonomic nervous system regulates heart rate, blood pressure, digestion and repair. It has two main branches.

Sympathetic system: fight or flight. Useful in the short term, but when it stays dominant it drives muscle tension, restricts blood flow and heightens pain sensitivity.

Parasympathetic system: rest and digest. It lowers heart rate, restores circulation and activates repair processes. Recovery depends on the ability to shift into this state.

In many pain cases the body remains locked in sympathetic overdrive. Rehabilitation is most effective when it restores balance. Breathing drills, structured exercise, manual therapy and sleep regulation all help improve parasympathetic tone and create the environment needed for tissue repair.

Key point: Pain is not exclusively a tissue problem. The nervous system also plays its part. Regaining autonomic balance is central to lasting recovery.

The calf–Achilles relationship explained:

A strong calf muscle generates force and maintains tension through the Achilles tendon. This tension creates stiffness, allowing the tendon to act as an efficient spring—storing and releasing energy with every step, jump, or sprint.

When calf strength is insufficient, the tendon is left slack. A slack tendon cannot store elastic energy effectively. The result is reduced efficiency, greater mechanical stress on surrounding tissues, and an increased risk of overload.

Calf capacity determines tendon stiffness. Tendon stiffness determines performance efficiency and injury resilience.

Also special shoutout to @drachperformance performance for making a great illustrated video to show this function/dysfunction in action 🙌🏻

Rehab progress comes from the exercises that feel tough or awkward at first. Over time, what was once a struggle turns into small but permanent change. The boring reps, the steady drills. That’s where strength rebuilds. Stay consistent and those small steps compound. Treat every rep like an investment, it all adds up.

If you want to get faster, more agile, and stay injury-free — this phase of training is non-negotiable.

Plyometrics. Sprint mechanics. Jump coordination.
These are not optional.

They build what strength alone can’t:
• 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴
• 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
• 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆

Neglecting this is why many athletes stay slow despite lifting — and why small errors in landing or foot strike turn into injuries.

You don’t need more effort.
You need better input.

Start with drills that train the nervous system to recognize and repeat efficient movement.
That’s what this session was built for.

🧠 Key benefits:
✓ Improved stride mechanics
✓ Better energy transfer
✓ Enhanced joint stiffness and control
✓ Reduced risk of non-contact injuries

⚽ Rotational Drills for Speed Development

Three key exercises:
– Cable rotation row
– Cable rotational lift
– Plate rotational step-up

These aren’t just “functional” fillers. They train what football actually demands.

🔁 Why they matter
1. Prepares the body for angular acceleration
Football speed isn’t linear — it’s cutting, curving, twisting off the spot. These drills develop:
• Torque from hips/core
• Load → unload patterns through the foot
→ First step after a feint? This is where it begins.
2. Links upper & lower body through the core
• Improves shoulder-pelvis dissociation
• Builds sprint efficiency (opposite arm/leg)
• Sharpens balance recovery under contact
3. Builds braking control + reacceleration
Rotational step-ups mimic decel-then-explode scenarios:
→ Mid-sprint pivot, change of direction after a duel, or pushing off a blocked line.
4. Develops rotational stiffness + reactive strength
• Preps oblique slings before plyos
• Reinforces trunk control during lateral sprint drills

🧠 Shared traits of these drills

✅ Rotation as a primary plane — not accessory
✅ Emphasis on ipsilateral force transfer
✅ Trains rotary stability + segmental dissociation
✅ Combines pro-rotation with anti-rotation demands
✅ High carryover to field mechanics and coordination

Front Foot Plyometrics in Bulgarian Stance 🦵📏

Unilateral plyometrics using a Bulgarian split squat base create a constrained vertical loading position. This setup targets single-leg reactive qualities while limiting assistance from the rear leg.

👇 Drill breakdown (all performed with rear foot supported):

1️⃣ Vertical Hops (in place)
🔹 Emphasizes ankle stiffness
🔹 Focus on minimal ground contact time
🔹 Cue: fast, rhythmic contacts under center of mass

2️⃣ Front–Back Hops
🔹 Trains sagittal plane acceleration and deceleration
🔹 Develops shin control and pelvic stability
🔹 Avoid overreaching or excessive torso motion

3️⃣ Side-to-Side Hops
🔹 Targets frontal plane reactivity
🔹 Challenges hip and midfoot control
🔹 Maintain equal displacement and consistent rhythm

4️⃣ Small Hurdle Hops
🔹 Introduces spatial cue for trajectory precision
🔹 Improves reactive timing under constraint
🔹 Useful precursor to change-of-direction work

5️⃣ Max Height Hop (in place)
🔹 Focused on concentric power output
🔹 High eccentric demand on landing
🔹 Limit to 3–5 reps per set due to neural load ⚡

🧠 Each variation challenges reactive force production, dynamic stiffness, and neuromuscular control along a single-leg chain.

✅ Best used in late prep or early off-season blocks when joint integrity, rate of force development, and precision are priorities. #physio #physiolife #fysio #fysiohoofddorp #fysioamsterdam #gymhoofddorp #plyometricstraining #singleleggedhops #speeddrills

🔥 It’s going to be brutal out there the next few days.

Dehydration isn’t just about being thirsty.
It slows down your brain, your muscles, your recovery.
You’ll feel weaker. Slower. Foggy. And if you keep pushing—dizzy or worse.

High temps mess with your system:
– Heart rate stays elevated
– Core temp rises
– Sleep quality drops
– Injury risk goes up
– Cognition tanks

And if you’re vulnerable—older, pregnant, sick, or on meds—this happens even faster.

Stay ahead of it.
– Drink small amounts often (don’t chug once you’re dry)
– Add salt or electrolytes if you’re sweating a lot
– Keep your body temp down with cold cloths on neck/groin/armpits
– Stay inside during peak sun hours
– If you have to train, do it early or keep it light
– Avoid back-to-back coffee and sun exposure

You’re not “toughing it out” if you overheat—you’re making recovery harder.
This is load, and your nervous system has to process it like any other stressor.

Respect the heat.
Hydrate on purpose.
Keep your ego out of it.
