The International Society for the Study of Time is pleased to announce our partnership with the University Museum of Contemporary Arts and Cultures @museomuacc to present "Time and Entanglement," a group art exhibition brought together as an extension of our 19th Triennial Conference.

Co-curated by Laura Leuzzi @82lale (Robert Gordon University, Scotland) and Antonella Sbrilli @diconodioggi (Sapienza University of Rome), the exhibition explores the Triennial’s central theme through a dynamic range of practices—including video works, collaborative installations, kinetic sculpture, performance, process-based mark-making, and conceptual photography.

Featuring works by Andrew Bracey, Andrew Cozzens, Castien Dowling, Daniel Fajardo Gomez, Ella Dawn McGeough, Emily DiCarlo & Justine Kohleal, Florian Schlumpf, John Steck Jr., Karen Heald & Susan Matthews, Paul Harris, and Scott Gleeson. Performances by Susan Banyas, and Hanyu Qu.

The Study of Time is a series of peer-reviewed volumes of select collected essays invited after each triennial conference. Time and Measure, Volume XVIII from the 2023 Conference in Yamaguchi, Japan is now available.

This volume of essays explores ideas of time and the measure of time, looking at how these vary and interact across disciplines, from J. T. Fraser’s hierarchical theory of time to phenomenology, considering Thoreau alongside Husserl and Merleau-Ponty, to the influence of a garden on Leibniz, to chronobiology and a consideration of postmodern, probabilistic measures of time. We look as well at human measures of time in Kazakh musical storytelling and medieval Japanese legend and turn finally to prose-poetry, video installation, and moving image art, along with considerations of Graham Swift and Ted Chiang’s modern novelistic explorations of time’s measure.

Contributors are Raji Steineck, Lanei Rodemeyer, Walter Schweidler, Paul Harris, Fredrick Turner, Arkadiusz Misztal, Kerstin Cuhls, Ritsuko Matsumura, Daniela Tan, Xiaoshi Wie, Chloe Garcia Roberts, Sanyogita Singh, Jo Alyson Parker, Karen Heald and Emily DiCarlo.

I’m grateful to Claire Christie for the opportunity to test drive this new work at the gallery. There are many who helped me get this work to this point...Christopher Dela Cruz designed the circuit and software, Scott Dutrisac helped with all my engineering questions, Emily DiCarlo managed my studio, Shannon Cooney had me thinking deeply about dance and sound with our long collaboration on her choreography, Red Armstrong gifted some great technical solutions and helped install. There was also Adam Swika, Josh Avery, Josh Cleminson, McWood Studio, Derril Thomas, Sharon Dueck, Peppercorn Imagine Studio, Gwen MacGregor, Natasha Akiwenzie...and always Christof Migone.

this experience taught me so much! writing about a project that holds meaning within what’s blurred, fragmented, and non-linear was a real challenge in finding written clarity 4 this moment in time; i can’t wait2 continue expanding this research into a place that’s even more collaborative!!

Ensemble, elles échangent sur ce fascinant projet en abordant entre autres ses thèmes, ses inspirations historiques et contemporaines, sa facture visuelle et son travail sonore. C’est l’avant-goût parfait pour celles et ceux qui ne seraient pas encore passés par notre galerie!

Déjà la mi-parcours pour 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘙𝘢𝘤𝘦, l’exposition d’Emily DiCarlo actuellement présentée en galerie!

Cette installation vidéo immersive à trois canaux explore le monde sensoriel de la plus grande course de pigeons au Canada, la 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘪𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺, où près de 700 jeunes pigeons parcourent 500 km en trois heures afin de rentrer au bercail depuis une station de départ définie. Inspirée par les origines de la photographie aérienne, l’œuvre questionne les liens entre les thèmes de la compétition technologique, de la précarité écologique et de l’intelligence non-humaine.

Notre galerie est ouverte de midi à 17h, du jeudi au dimanche, jusqu’au 1er juin prochain. 🪶
