I went from playing with Barbies in the stands while watching my brother wrestle… to starting the Zimmerman Girls Wrestling team. Although i never met some of my goals, I wouldn’t trade this opportunity for anything.

At the start of my freshman year, my dad found out that girls wrestling had finally been sanctioned by the Minnesota State High School League. After some thought, I decided, “Why not? What do I have to lose?”

If my nervous freshman self could see how much this program has grown, she would be SO proud. What started as something new and uncertain turned into something bigger than I ever imagined. My first match i had nothing but a tshirt and shorts. I went out and wrestled, ended up getting pinned, all i did was smile and look at @emilygardas because i was just happy to be out there!

Thank you @joe_swayze_ for stepping up as my practice partner when I had no one. I truly couldn’t have done it without you and your knowledge you taught me how to wrestle.

Thank you to my mom for stepping up as our first ever girls coach, getting us to more tournaments, and making sure we had matches. Your support means everything.

And to my teammates…every single one of you. it takes courage to step on that mat and try a new thing. Watching you all grow, learn, and succeed has been one of the greatest parts of this journey.

Thank you, Zimmerman Wrestling, for the best four years. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for women’s wrestling.
