#heresheis – EMILY RENNES @emilyrennes

‘I’m helping more people to be more active more often. Doing my bit to help lower the cost of pharmaceutical medicines and health care that isn't based on physical activity. I have worked for state and national sport organisations in addition to local government and national children's hospitals.

My early career aspiration was to work full-time in the sport industry, initially a sport I was already familiar with, and a bonus if it was in events and/or had the opportunity to grow and feel like I was making an impact. When choosing what to study at university people would say "choose something you loved learning about at school". For me, that was Physical Education and Sport Science subjects, I always looked forward to sports day (not just for the comfier uniform!) and before/after school sports... trips away representative, etc.

I also know how good it feels to be active - and I want everyone to enjoy that for the betterment of their lives.
Words to live by? Just Do It. Begin with the end in mind. A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Don't believe the stories your mind makes up. No one really cares (this can be both a positive and negative thing!).
I’m very inspired by athletes who should have finished up but through pure grit and determination (not to mention sacrifice) just kept going. Great managers and colleagues along the way. Female leaders who are breaking the ceiling and taking others with them.

I hope to inspire anyone working in the industry or otherwise, to be inspired by what being active can do for well-being. For women in positions of leadership to back themselves and continue to race with the men. To know that gender will become a thing of the past, irrelevant - and we will all work together better understanding what individuals and networks can create.
Words for my younger self? It’s a long game... stay the course, be patient. Continue to take opportunities, expand horizons, network, and balance. Work efficiently, play effectively. Don't worry - it all works out in the end. If it doesn't work out - it's not the end.’
