Canada’s biggest energy debate has been missing something obvious.

A full clean energy transition would cut Canada’s energy costs by over 60%, from $296B to $114B a year. The upfront investment pays back in under five years. Every dollar spent generates $4-7 in GDP growth.

There’s another reason this matters right now: it’s largely tariff-proof. Retrofitting buildings, upgrading systems, installing heat pumps, that work happens here, with Canadian engineers and Canadian supply chains. It doesn’t cross a border that can be weaponized overnight.

The cheapest, fastest, most sovereign energy investment Canada can make is the one that saves energy in the first place.
