Day 3: Apparently we came to Costa Rica to relax… so naturally we planted trees, hung upside down in aerial hammocks, stretched like pretzels, learned something life changing in a masterclass, and somehow still found time to eat.

Retreat life is exhausting. 😏

Service. Movement. Connection. Growth.

And yes… tomorrow we voluntarily enter silence. Pray for the extroverts. 🌴😂

A LOT OF PEOPLE TAKE FROM A PLACE WHEN THEY TRAVEL.

WE WANT TO GIVE SOMETHING BACK.

One of the things I love most about Awaken Retreats is that we don’t just come to experience a destination.

We come to contribute to it.

Today we partnered with Costas Verdes, a nonprofit restoring Costa Rica’s coastal forests. Since 2009, they’ve planted more than 100,000 native trees, helping bring shade, wildlife, and healthy ecosystems back to beaches that were once stripped bare by decades of cattle farming.

What I love most is how it started.

A surfer wanted more shade on his favorite beach.

One small idea.

One person who cared.

Today that idea has grown into a movement restoring entire coastlines.

So this morning we got our hands dirty.

We planted trees.

We laughed.

We sweated.

And we left a tiny piece of Costa Rica better than we found it.

Because that’s part of what Awaken Retreats is about.

Adventure.
Connection.
Growth.
Service.

Not just taking memories home.

Leaving something meaningful behind.

What’s one place that changed your life?

DAY 2 OF RETREAT AND THE UNIVERSE CHOSE VIOLENCE. 😂

No electricity.
No water.
A full-on Costa Rican monsoon.

And somehow…

Pilates still happened.
Yoga still happened.
Meditation still happened.
Aerial still happened.
The food was still incredible.
The laughs were still nonstop.

Turns out you don’t need perfect conditions to feel alive.

Just good people.
A little movement.
A lot of flexibility.
And the ability to say, “Well… this wasn’t on the itinerary.”

The storm knocked out the power.

It did not knock out the fun.

Would you survive a retreat with no power and no running water for a day?

Day 1 of Costa Rica: 17 hours of travel for 17 seconds of this view. Worth it.
(Comment with your horrific travel day stories below – let’s hear them)

Today’s adventure included:
• Delayed flights
• Circling the airport because we couldn’t land in the storm
• An unexpected stop in Nicaragua
• Sitting on the tarmac waiting for Costa Rica to decide if she’d let us in
• Shuttle rides that felt longer than some relationships
• Sleeping positions that should require chiropractic care afterward

At one point I wasn’t sure if we were on a retreat or competing in a survival challenge.

But then…

The jungle appeared.
The ocean showed up.
The warm air hit our faces.
The laughter started.
The conversations got deeper.
The stress melted away.

Funny how paradise makes you forget every inconvenience that came before it.

Tonight we’re connecting, restoring, learning, growing, and reminding ourselves that some of the best things in life require a little patience to get to.

Everyone wants the transformation.

Few people want the travel day.

But the travel day is part of the story.

And trust me… this story is already worth it.

P.S. If you’re watching these videos thinking “I wish I was there”… AWAKEN RETREAT ANNOUNCEMENT HAPPENING NEXT WEEK!
