Once established in London, Handel devised a new kind of music drama that won over the English public and gave the operatic stage a new, modern aspect. Revolutionizing English traditions, he imported the drama and colour of Italy, and the voices of its greatest operatic castrati. Carlo Vistoli now presents this heritage, reviving some of the greatest Handel arias first sung in London by his illustrious compatriots.

"Rodelinda", HWV 19, by George Frideric Handel (1725) ❂

One of Handel’s most poignant operas, "Rodelinda" premiered in London in 1725, at the height of an exceptional season for the composer. Alongside "Giulio Cesare" and "Tamerlano", it stands as one of the absolute pinnacles of opera seria.

On the stage of the Lille Opera, director Jean Bellorini and the ensemble Le Concert d'Astrée, conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm, restore the work’s full dramatic power. A plot of betrayal, resurrection, and forgiveness, told here from the perspective of a child—a silent witness to the unfolding drama.
