Time (and distance) makes the heart grow fonder. I’ve been away from Illinois for 11 years, and it seems as if all the life milestones and transitions are happening this summer for the people I hold so close, but who live so far.

Our lives sure look a lot different — with new babies, new marriages, & new friendship circles in the mix — but it’s brought me incredible joy to see my people thriving as they enter each new life stage. And although I wish time could slow down, I find comfort in the familiarity of home each time I reunite with the Midwest.

It’s a part of me, it’s an anchor, and it holds my heart, no matter the space and distance between us.

Wow wow wow. Overwhelmed is an understatement.

Yesterday, I hosted my first ever fundraiser for @outthinkingbraincancer in honor of my mom. And dammit, we raised over $3000 for this incredible organization!

This year I’ve thought long and hard about how I can make an impact and try to help other families struggling with this horrible disease. I wanted it to be personal, to be fun, and ultimately do some good in these challenging times.

With the support of my friends, family and partner in crime (Mr Zachary!), Bear Down on Brain Cancer was born. It’s been a hell of a ride planning this, fundraising, knocking on doors of businesses, and gathering a crowd. I’m so proud of everything we were able to accomplish and I’m just so grateful for the amount of love my family has received. And I cannot wait to do this again!!!

Big shout out to my girls @mariammackar @nicoleeperilloo @_meganluckett for working the raffle table like no other. To all the local businesses (and the Bears baby!!!) for donating to our event and to everyone that came out. 🐻⬇️🧠 I wish I took more pictures but you’ll just have to trust how amazing it was!!!

Mama, I hope you’re proud and I hope you were able to see just how many damn lives you’ve touched. Cheers to you, Kimmypoo 🍻

One year of being your wife. WOW, how the time has flown. I wake up every morning feeling so beyond lucky and grateful that I get to do life with my best friend. It’s a true gift and an honor to walk through the ups and downs, hand-in-hand with a teammate and a partner. I love you even more than I did 365 days ago (which was one of the best days EVER, scroll for the evidence!)

Nick, thank you for choosing me, loving me and supporting me. I will spend a lifetime doing the same for you ❤️
