Adding a queer lens to jazz classics, Femme de la Femme make room to dance with
the former genre tropes of the damsel in distress, the helpless singer pining for a lover or a saviour. When on stage, their performance of femininity is one of expression, escaping the confines of performativity. “There is such an undercurrent of misogyny in the industry in general. Sexism is so rife, especially in jazz. Like, all the jazz standards that we love, we
listen to them, and the lyrics are ‘I’m as helpless as a kitten up a tree.’ It’s so reductive." Explains Ellen.

I’m honoured to say that my track ‘Better Than You’ with @jazmine.johnson_ was selected for the @bbcradio1 best of 2025 @bbcintroducing show, as well as the @bbcintroducing Merseyside’s best of 2025 show.⠀
⠀
To have been selected out of however many thousands of tracks that get uploaded every year to a list of 30 songs on the nationwide Radio 1 2025 highlights show truly is bonkers, and makes me so happy. ⠀
⠀
Thank you to @jjiszatt @davemonks__ and all the BBC Introducing teams for supporting me this year and putting a big smile on my face. ⠀
⠀
What a way to start 2026✨⠀

I am pleased to share that a few weeks ago, I was selected as a LCRPA finalist and recently won 2nd place in the Celebration category.

This has been a massive achievement and something I’m so proud of. I’ll never forget the day I took these photographs, wandering around Anfield for hours just capturing the atmosphere.

A massive thank you to the @openeyegallery for this fantastic opportunity of displaying the work of all 18 finalists that will be running til 11th January 2026. To @rjbattersby for the these lovely photographs of my work.

And finally, well done to everyone who entered! always believe in yourself.

🎥 THE SANDBOX SHOWCASE SPOTLIGHT 🎬

Next in our anniversary lineup is The Painter from the Painting, a beautifully observed drama from filmmaker @emmar0ck . A film that sits in that quiet, intimate space where family history, small misunderstandings, and years of unspoken emotion finally start to surface.

The film centres on Celine and Cora, mother and daughter, whose relationship has long lived in a tangle of warmth, distance, and the kind of accidental hurt that grows in the gaps between people who care for each other deeply but can’t quite find the same language. Their latest conversation is sparked by the discovery of a mysterious portrait painted by an unknown artist. As they study the face in front of them, something shifts. The portrait becomes a mirror, revealing subtle similarities, old wounds, buried fears, and the uneasy question that haunts so many women: “Am I becoming my mother?”

Celine arrives in Cora’s life the way she always has, full of charm, gifts, and a desperate need to feel like she’s doing enough. Cora, a talented painter in her own right, still waits for the kind of recognition and understanding only a parent can give. The film gently unfolds the ache of wanting to be seen, the longing to be understood, and the fragile, complicated love that binds them together even when they get it wrong.

Catch The Painter from the Painting as part of our first anniversary edition of the Sandbox Showcase on 19.11.25 at @picturehouse_fact. Doors open at 5:00PM for our pre-show mixer, screenings begin at 6:30PM, and afterwards we’ll gather in the bar for the post-show hangout!

🎟 Tickets £4 (link in bio) — and hurry, cause they’re going quickly!

Lots of love,
The LMF Gang 💙
