What an absolutely brilliant day with our pop-up story stall at Highcliffe Castle! We had sun, rain and even hail (!) but met so many wonderful people from the local community who generously took the time out to sit with us, write and share their stories. A family, originally from Brazil, told us about Bournemouth’s thriving Brazilian community, and how they regularly meet for Mass and brunch in the town centre; a couple shared the story of their wedding reception at the Castle, which was one of the first to be held there; and another woman recalled how the staff at Hinton Admiral station presented her husband with a bottle of champagne to share with fellow commuters on the morning that he retired after many years of commuting to London. All such gems - and we gathered many many more to add to our community story map.
If you want to be part of the map, join our free creative writing workshops in the area and/or enter our #writingcompetition, click on the link in our bio to find out more. We are back at @highcliffecastle with free writing workshops later in the month - please head to their website to sign up for those.

With thanks to @mike.sanders17 from @inspiredaub and @katie_havicon for their support today and to the wonderful team @highcliffecastle and @mybcpcouncil plus support from @aceagrams

Come and join us at our FREE Highcliffe Castle pop-up story stall on Thursday April 6th! Everyone has a story to tell.
And we want to hear yours!

Stories create community - so we are creating a community story map! We want to add as many stories as we can from local people - treasured memories or moments of local people and places - so do pop along and share yours.

There will be free activity packs to pick up and enjoy (suitable for all ages) and we will be sharing details of our exciting new writing competition and free writing workshops too!

You can find us at the Castle between 10.30 and 4.30pm - hopefully in the garden if the weather allows (but inside if not!) - and we look forward to seeing you all.

Stories From Our Streets is an @artfulscribeuk community project, funded by @artscouncilengland and @bcpcouncil, supported by @aubinspired

If you can’t join us in person, you can email a moment or memory to stories@artfulscribe.co.uk or drop it in on a piece of paper at your local library, marking it: Stories From Our Streets, and including your postcode.

If you’d like to join in at a free session close to you, they are happening across BCP. Email us at stories@artfulscribe.co.uk to find out when there’s a session near you and keep an eye out here!

Fifty pictures for 50 years! 🎨

Artist Emma Scattergood @artfromtheshore is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Association by sketching 50 pictures along the South West Coast Path as she attempts to walk 630 miles over the year, and raise funds for the charity at the same time! We will follow her journey and share her work as part of our trailblazing celebrations.

Emma’s first blog of her painting adventure, illustrated with some of her exquisite Dorset coast sketches, explains why she was inspired to take on the project and what she hopes will be some of the outcomes from walking and sketching the South West Coast Path during 2023.

A massive thank you to Emma for this beautiful creative project to commemorate our 50th anniversary. We are already enjoying seeing the sketches from the first few weeks out on the Path and hope she'll be joining us on a couple of our Trailblazer Walks 😀 👣
