Another summer with @experiencecamps goes by and the count down for next summer begins!!!

@experiencecamps is a national nonprofit that transforms the lives of grieving children, offering a free, one-week summer camp for children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver.

This summer it was an honor to be once again with my girls, who I’ve been with since they were 9. I’ve seen their growth, both in their personal lives and grief journeys.

Coming into this year I held close to my heart my own fathers 10 year death anniversary, and how even though so much time has passed, one can never fully move on and “get over” such a lose. As things come and go in my life, there is one thing that stays true to me and that is my grief.

This year one of my campers asked me if I would change the outcome of my dad’s death and I confidently told her no.

As shocking as that statement might sound, I said no because I couldn’t imagine my life without all the individuals I have met along the way that have shaped me in my life and my grief for the better.

As much as I miss my dad and wish I could have known him as an adult, I feel comfortable accepting the fate and cards I was given.

I think if asked that question a couple years ago, there would’ve been a much different answer and who knows my answer might change even overtime; but I’m confident with the present to know that my answer comes from good faith. Camp has given me the space to grieve but also given me people who I fall in love with everyday despite distance, backgrounds, and time zones.

You come as you are, and leave feeling ready to tackle whatever form of grief comes your way

How can “grief camp” be one of the happiest places on earth? 🧡💛

A true beauty in humanity is that we thrive when connected. At @experiencecamps, all campers and most counselors have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. These children are instantly connected by their grief, then, with the right tools, they find joy together.

Unfortunately, we will all lose someone we love. For these kids, it happens far too soon. ExCamps helps ensure they have a bright future and find hope and strength after going through the worst.
