Tomorrow I will start my senior year otherwise known as my last first day of high school. Today, I reflect on the past few months and what the future holds.

As many of you know, I lost my sister, Avery at the very beginning of the summer. I never thought that it would begin in heartbreak. As I write this, I remember that she will walk the stage with me in May, but I will not get to look for her after the ceremony. Even though it is so heartbreaking, I know that she is cheering me on every step of the way. I miss her so much every single day.

Even after her passing, things started to look up day after day. Friends of mine always told me “Take it one day at a time.” I follow that advice and it has helped. While this summer was spent in grief, it made me a better person. I am now stronger in my faith and I have grown more empathetic.

This year is going to be a little tough, but I still see it being a great last year of high school. I just have so much to look forward to! Sunrise, Homecoming, Stock Shows, Judging, Prom, Graduation, and so much more! I have decided on either WTAMU or Texas Tech University after I graduate, but what I major in is still TBD. I love those universities so much and would love to spend 4 years at either one.

I am excited for what tomorrow holds, and what the year holds and I am ready. Let’s make this year a great year.
