New York City’s EJ’s Luncheonette on the Upper East Side has gone full retro with a new TV Dinner menu item featuring Salisbury Steak, green beans, mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, cherry pie and an egg cream served in a blue TV dinner tray! This special will be available next Thursday, October 1st at 4 PM to coincide with our “Counter Culture” book signing event from 4-6 PM (swipe left for flyer). “Counter Culture” features @ejsluncheonette among 30 of Manhattan’s most beloved diners and luncheonettes with full color photos & insightful text. Family-owned EJ’s at the corner of Third Ave at East 73rd Street opened in 1992 and is designed to evoke the look and feel of a 1940s luncheonette with a long curvilinear lunch counter and plenty of booth seating. Today is National Cheeseburger Day and we are highlighting Joe Junior Restaurant, one of the best old-school diners in New York City known for its burgers. 🍔 Located in the Gramercy neighborhood of Manhattan since the 1970s, its burgers are not only affordable but have received citywide acclaim over the years, regularly sustaining its place on food media lists. Despite this honor, @joejrdiner remains a no-frill spot where you can sit at the timeworn L-shaped Formica counter or at one of the small tables along the wood and mirrored-paneled walls, which gives the diner a cozy throw-back vibe. Joe Junior is also one of the many fabulous diners and luncheonettes we feature in our new book “Counter Culture: New York City’s Greatest Diners & Luncheonettes” which is available at your local bookseller or online worldwide. To celebrate its release, we are having a meet & greet book signing event tomorrow Saturday September 19th from 1-2 PM at Wild Sorrel Cookbooks 332 East 13th Street near 2nd Avenue in the East Village @wildsorrelcookbooks. Come grab a book signed by us and then take a short walk and visit Joe Junior to have one of their delicious burgers.

Such a cool restoration store, ran by cool women. It was so stimulating to photograph all the knickknacks that were displayed with pristine organization, and learn how passionately driven their business is.
