Wondering what our undergraduate students have been up to? Over the weekend, a group of undergraduate students and faculty had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Alliance Theater to experience Charles Dickens’ classic story, “A Tale of Two Cities.” Thank you to all the students and faculty who joined us for this outing. Have exciting news you want to share? Please send them to Khristin Isley (Khristin.isley@emory.edu) for a social media feature. • • • • #charlesdickens #ataleoftwocities #cocacolastageatl

New event: second & final Lunch & Learn session of this semester. We will have Perrine Gaudry (PhD candidate @ Department of French & Italian) present her work on April 12, 2023, 11:30 am @ Philosophy Seminar Room. Title: Freud and the Psychic Power of Images  Talk details: In this talk I will discuss a specific dream that Freud analyzes in chap. 6 of The Interpretation of Dreams. I will examine two topics in this dream : 1) the relationship to time that plays out, 2) the theme of trauma and its relation to filiation. I will show how trauma is developed through generations in a non-linear way from what I call the dream as a photographic machine. A close-reading of this text sheds light on the relationship between the unconscious, time, trauma, and filiation. #psychoanalysisatemory #psychoanalysis #sigmundfreud #freud #interpretationofdreams #unconscious #trauma #gradschool
