So excited to be moving to Atlanta in June to pursue my Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Emory University. The next three years will probably be the most challenging, yet rewarding years and I am beyond excited for the growth that is yet to come.

Signed,
Future Dr. Elizabeth Meretighan PT, DPT

🌟AHC Weekly Student Spotlight 🌟

Physician Assistant Student Emmy Sharp
-
Hometown - Auburn, AL
-
"Why did you choose your program?" - After living in the Atlanta area for several years and working as a clinical dietitian alongside a handful of fantastic Emory PA grads, I knew Emory was a great place for inclusion and knew the PA profession would be a great fit for me to treat the whole patient and better address the many health challenges our patients face.
-
"What is your favorite course?" - Anatomy may be the most feared course in our curriculum but I loved every minute of it! I was blown away by the intricacies of the human body and am forever grateful for everything my “first patient” taught me.
-
"What is one thing you want to highlight about your interested profession that others may not know?" - Physician Assistants are trained to provide care to patients of in every stage of life and a wide variety of specialties and settings so they will always bring a new perspective and set of skills to any healthcare team.
-
"What impact do you hope to make on your profession?" - Leading by practicing emotional, cognitive and compassionate empathy are vital in being an effective provider. You can better connect with patients and other members of the healthcare team to inspire change, provide excellent care and help others feel heard.

Nature is my soulmate.

Well maybe it’s tied with the guy who explores nature with me @imhawkeye 😍

Nature calls me back to myself. It teaches me to:
✨slow down
✨tune inward
✨open my eyes to see outward
✨explore without expectations
✨inhale
✨exhale

It helps me to reconnect with my inner child and let her play with a free and wild heart.

Nature is one of the things that feels like home to me 🏔

So the real question that I’m dying to know your answer to: beach or mountains??

🌟AHC Weekly Student Spotlight 🌟

Medical Imaging Student Janine Gonzalez

-
Why did you choose your program?" - I chose this program because it is one of the few programs in GA that offers a Bachelors degree in Medical Imaging and Radiologic Sciences. Unlike other schools, most radiologic science programs offer an associates degree and would have to get a certification separately for the modality of your liking. Emory has a great reputation and the fact that I am able to get licensed in X-ray as well as a modality of my choice such as CT, MRI, and IR is the reason why I chose this program.
-
"What is your favorite course?" - My favorite course would have to be medical imaging procedures. This class focuses on the patient positioning, centering, alignment of the x-ray tube, and the anatomy of interest of the body which is what X-ray is all about. I think its pretty cool that each body part has different positions and angles that we have to know in order to provide the correct imaging for diagnosis.
-
"What is one thing you want to highlight about your interested profession that others may not know?" - Surprisingly, GA and many other states do not require licensing in our profession and inadequately train people to x-ray you, mom, dad or anybody very high doses of ionizing radiation that can potentially cause cancer. This allows doctors who have their own practices to pay us less and provide a very unsafe environment for patients. It would be nice if this could be regulated to create a national standard of safety and standardization in healthcare. There's a lot more to X-ray than just pushing a button.
