New York Emos' first Emo Summer Beach Bash is August 22 at @postcardbrewing. An afternoon of sounds from @jaydefiance of @emostoria_ and @djchasecoppins of @electric77.nyc. Then, a live set of emo and pop-punk covers by @poppunktroubadours, during the sunset, on the bay. You don't want to miss this one.

The boardwalk is just a 12-minute walk away, for you to visit before or during the event. You needed a beach day, and we made it better.

Advance tickets are currently available for $15 + fees. Bringing friends? You can bundle 4 tickets together and get one free for $45 + fees. Link in bio 🔗

Last night, against my better judgment and several warning signs from my lumbar region, I attended “EMOSTORIA” at Murphy’s Bar in Astoria.

For the younger readers: yes, Murphy’s is technically a sports bar. A very good one, actually. On any given night you can walk in for a Knicks or Mets game, a few beers, some wings, and maybe — just maybe — catch Mayor Mamdani emotionally reacting during fourth-quarter at the bar like the rest of us degenerates. The place has become such an Astoria institution that, at this point, historical landmark status should at least be discussed.

But last night? Murphy’s transformed into something else entirely. A sanctuary for former emo kids now approaching 40 with lower back pain, full-time jobs, and decent mattresses we can finally afford.

The event started at 8 PM. Eight. PM.

At 39 years old, that’s no longer “going out.” That’s “disrupting my evening recovery schedule.” But for My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy covers performed live by a genuinely incredible band? Fine. I’ll risk it.

So I did what every aging emo kid in Queens did yesterday: I dug through my closet and found the same dusty black Converse sneakers I bought sometime around 2004. Completely flat. Zero arch support. Basically orthopedic terrorism.

At first, it was magical. The eyeliner energy was back.

People were screaming lyrics like they had just gotten dumped behind a Hot Topic.

For one beautiful moment, we were all 17 again. Just like when I went to the “When We Were Young Festival” in Vegas last year.

Then, approximately 43 minutes into the set, my body filed an official complaint.

My lower back began throbbing during “Sugar, We’re Goin Down.” By the second chorus of “Welcome to the Black Parade,” my knees had started negotiating surrender terms. Somewhere between songs I caught multiple former scene kids subtly stretching near the bar while pretending to check sports scores and Kalshi bets. One guy audibly groaned sitting down.

Worth it? Absolutely. (Story continues in comments)
