Pacifica Congress is thrilled to congratulate our Director and President, Darren Mort, on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the recent King’s Birthday Honours.

The honour recognises Darren’s extraordinary contribution to the law, his extensive pro bono work, and his tireless advocacy for children and families.
Anyone who knows Darren knows this recognition reflects years of passion, generosity and a genuine commitment to making the world a better place for children. His work has inspired people across Australia and internationally, and he continues to build communities of people who share that vision.

We’re incredibly proud to have Darren as part of Pacifica Congress and couldn’t be happier to see his contribution recognised in this way.

There is something powerful about being in the same room.

Recently, our Board came together in Sydney for an in-person meeting, spending time planning, debating, and shaping what comes next for our community across the Pacific region. These are busy professionals who give their time generously, and it was a reminder of just how much thoughtful work happens behind the scenes.

We are pleased to announce a new chapter in our leadership, reflecting both continuity and the ongoing strength of our interdisciplinary community.

We welcome Darren Mort (VIC), @dmort0813 as our in-coming president, and Dr Phill Watts (WA) as our VP, supported by our longstanding treasurer, Kirstie Colls (QLD) of @toshcolls and our secretary, Rachael Oakley (WA)

They join our other directors, Elizabeth Picker (NSW) @empicker64 Perpetua Kish (ACT) @thekindlawyer Clare Rowe (NSW) @clarerowe_psychologist Joplin Higgins OAM (NSW) @queenfamilylawyer Jennifer Veitch (QLD) Brintyn Smith (NZ) @brintyn_smith_barrister , Steph Reid (VIC) and Angelina Hing (Singapore) - together a brave, bright and bold multidisciplinary board 🤍

This transition is also an opportunity to recognise, with deep gratitude, the extraordinary contribution of The HonourableThe Hon Steven Strickland KC Strickland KC. Over many years, his vision, generosity of time, and unwavering commitment have shaped Pacifica Congress into the vibrant and respected organisation it is today. And also, the wonderful and wise, Lillia Szarski who has served us for many years and contributed so much.

We look forward to the future of Pacifica Congress. Join us - link in bio #familylaw #familycourts #teamwork #pacificacongress

What a year! Not all highs and definitely didn’t achieve all my goals but also smashed others. I know many people are happy to see the back of 2025, but having a years worth of photos on your camera roll to flick through on the last day of the year may remind you that special moments are often in the every day mundane and are almost always with the people you love ❤️❤️❤️
Bring on 2026 ✨✨✨

Honouring a legacy of leadership, David Edney, a long time director and treasurer, is granted a lifetime membership in recognition of his distinguished contributions to a collaborative approach to family law. David was one of the founding directors of our organisation and performed the role of treasurer in the early years; however his wise counsel, insightful contributions and grace has left a lasting legacy. Thank you David.

Last night, Pacifica Congress hosted its Sydney Plus One event at the Mills Oakley Family Law Sydney office, drawing together a vibrant cross-section of professionals working in family law, psychology, mediation, and social services.

Chaired by Board Director
Liz Picker, the evening brought attention to the many nuanced and multidisciplinary pathways available to families navigating separation. With a shared focus on reducing conflict and improving outcomes for children, the panel
Antonia Marran, Clare Rowe and
Dr Alison O’Neill explored a range of intervention models - from therapeutic to forensic to facilitative. We were disappointed to miss Shelby Timmins but will see her present in Adelaide.

Meet Elizabeth Picker, an accredited specialist in family law and experienced family dispute resolution practitioner and arbitrator. Elizabeth brings more than two decades of experience helping families navigate separation with dignity and care. Her work with clients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and those affected by family violence, aligns with Pacifica’s mission to foster inclusive, safe, and ethical practice in family law.

Liz’s enthusiasm and passion shine through in all she does and she is always the first to volunteer to assist our Pacifica team. Her positivity and charisma make her vital addition to our board.

On Tuesday, Pacifica Congress directors had the privilege of visiting Singapore’s Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), where we met with dedicated leaders shaping family policy and services including Nancy Ng, Jiale How, Vivienne Ng, Karen Sik, Irene Cheng, Ruth Ching, Peter Tam, Shuxuan Hu and others.

We were particularly excited to learn about Singapore’s 11 Family Law Centres, including the opening of the newest centre that very day. These centres provide accessible, integrated, and multidisciplinary support to families navigating separation and divorce, ensuring that those in need receive the right help at the right time.
Singapore’s mandatory co-parenting programme is another inspiring initiative, equipping parents with the tools to minimise conflict and prioritise their children’s well-being. With a rigorous program of outcome monitoring, MSF continues to strengthen the social service sector, delivering real impact for families.
We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from their work and explore ways to collaborate in building a more supportive, child-focused approach to family law.

Thanks for having us, MSF! 🇸🇬🇦🇺
