We did it! SLICED is wrapped (been wrapped). Took our time to catch our breath over here, but this one deserves praise. Every indie short is its own mini miracle and this one is no different. This work was impossible without the support of so many artists and collaborators. Here’s a shoutout to the folks who stitched this together and believed in a story that centers Washington DC youth. Our communities are our responsibility and the creatives who showed up to pull this off proved that point. Grateful and humbled by the generosity and talent of this stellar cast & crew. ✨1 Year Anniversary of my short film “Village”. 🥹 [🌱 link in bio!] 🌀 On December 4th last year my amazing cast and crew gathered at the Greenbelt Campground in Maryland. It was freezing but we were all committed to get everything done in ONE day. ✨💭Y’all I remember driving to the campground that morning to begin production and I wanted to call everyone and tell them to go HOME. I wanted to go home and curl up in fetal position because I was so afraid to try and bring my vision to life, to direct a cast, to make a film which is something I had always dreamt of doing since my junior year in high school. ✨The film and the reception of it has been so healing for me. It’s not perfect y’all, but I’m so proud of what we made and the message. 🫶🏽 🎥 These are my 3 favorite scenes in the whole film!! That’s actually my grandmother in the first scene. At the lowest point of my life 2 years ago, when living felt unbearable, I got an unexpected phone call from my grandmother. Unlike the character in the film I hadn’t actually revealed to her or anyone that I was struggling but one day God put it on her spirit to call me. And she poured life into me y’all. These are just some of the words that she said. I ask her to this day if she remembers that phone call and she always says no 😂. But they are words, and a turning point in my life, that I will never forget. ✨ I was at such a low point. I had spent many years in a creative drought, feeling inadequate, & stuck in a cycle of comparison. A year later I got an internship in LA. Months later made this film and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. And 3 months after that made the move to LA to continue my dreams. FINALLYpart 1 of the Recap from ANANSE: fashion show and marketplace! We had a great time. I'm super thankful for the designers, vendors, models, staff, and everyone who came through to support for set-up and coming outfor the event itself. The event came out beautiful, the the snacks and food from @sistahpop and @laslovelanguage were gone in a matter of minutes. Everyone Loved the handmade crochet items by @noname_sank @by.segun All the vendors showed up and showed outttt. I wish i had gottem to go see them more but i was running around per usual trying to get everything in order. BSU SENIOR SHOW 💛🖤💛🖤 (long overdue update) Here’s some of my work for Bowie State University’s Spring 2023 Senior Thesis Exhibition, Inner-Piece: Building a Collection of our Experiences This was the premiere of my short film thesis project, Insomnia. Thanks @aseisgodis and @sia.sunshine for lending me your talents as my film’s leads y’all are amazing!
