Thank you @sfartsmonthly and Mark Taylor for featuring our show! “After suffering a stroke in 2018, Detroit artist Antwoine Washington dedicated himself to making art, using common house paint to infuse canvases with the fragility of existence. While the paint is flat (as opposed to glossy), the compositions are layered with texture, buzzing with bright color and frenetic activity. Many of the abstracts resemble crowd scenes, perhaps seen from above, populated with figures of rain drops falling, flowers popping, and birds in flight,” Mark Taylor, SF/Arts Curator.

Cal college days, early 80s. This is slide film. I loved that Fujica. It got stolen out of the car in front of CBGB years later (served us right.) 📷1: selfie. Note the door covered with layers of latex paint, which we peeled obsessively. Ida Sproul dorm, 8th floor, woo! 📷2: i do not recall to which dorm posse member these shoes belonged. Adorned with petals. [I tagged college chums on this photo just because] 📷3: my side of the dorm room. This dates these photos from 1983. Note: FB3/Bananarama super group! 📷4: Ida Sproul and her creepy hallways

SF/Arts Gallery Highlight! "Visit the rescued remains of a fictional Swiss art school (Zürich's State Art Academy aka SKZ) to view partially completed color studies, signed by imaginary students, produced at the instruction of non-existent professors in pretend painting classes. Observe the preferred palettes abandoned by phantom artists whose works will never be realized. All that potential resides in the mind of LA's Dan Levenson, who shares enticing scraps that conjure the outlines of workrooms, the architecture of buildings, the possible art careers, and the potential art movements of a school that never existed, which is made all the more poignant by the closing of storied Bay Area art schools (Mills, SFAI, CCA) that once birthed legends and have ceased, or will soon cease to exist." —Mark Taylor, SF/Arts Curator Thank you, @sfartsmonthly and @emptypictures, for your insightful highlight of @dan_levenson's solo exhibition, "A5 Format Oil on Paper Studies and A3 Format Student Palettes from the SKZ," featured in today’s SF/Arts insert in The New York Times. On view through June 20 — #municipalbonds #danlevenson #sfarts #galleryhighlight #nytimes

Thank you @sfartsmonthly and Mark Taylor for featuring our forthcoming show “Esteban Samayoa: Somethin’ Bout the East” opening May 8th! “Esteban Samayoa combines airbrush and charcoal to create both clean and slightly off-kilter portraits and dense, mural-sized community clusters that feel like snapshot collages of daily life. Next to these trot colorful images of dogs looking hungry and paintings that recall baseballs cards or grocery store ads, which explore the odd phenomenon of marginalized communities ‘pushed to the Eastern edges of cities through displacement and gentrification.’”

Long before there was Tiny Little Cosmos, I toted a notebook, camera, voice recorder, around the SF Bay Area to report on local arts and culture. I had such a great time producing stories for The California Report and then writing for my editor Mark Taylor (@emptypictures) at @kqedarts. That spirit of curiosity still lives at the heart of Tiny Little Cosmos. Every project starts with that same instinct: listen deeply and paint vividly. #TinyLittleCosmos #CreativeDirection #Storytelling #AnchorAndAction #PlotAndPulse #CreativeProduction #DesignForChange #ArtAndImpact This image features a picture and a testimonial quote from Mark Taylor, filmmaker and visual artist at Imaginary Lamp Empire, and former editor at KQED. The quote reads: “Love Deepthi. She’s a really wonderful writer who has on more than one occasion turned me on to interesting cultural information that I would have otherwise been oblivious to. She’s fun to work with, creative and has great style and energy.”

Had a wonderful time in Sutter Creek for the opening of my show Tell Me How to Be a Lily at Yorba Gallery last weekend! Many thanks to the people of Amador County for coming out and engaging with my work, to @jamestanleyaarons for his curatorial vision and organizing, and to @yorbawines for hosting a warm reception with excellent drinks and snacks. Extra gratitude to James and @emptypictures for the lovely afternoon/evening (the peach tart was heavenly!)! @hernberferd and I also did some classic exploration of Amador County folkways, along with a meander through the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta on the way home. 💐🐸🤠🇺🇸
