Heart of the Machine: Ryan Halpin of Emulsion.VHS

An event doesn’t really feel like an event without Ryan.

Originally starting behind the camera, he’s now chasing his own driving too, capturing all of it on film. He’s covered KnuckleUp, FinalBout, and plenty more, shooting on some of the coolest formats out there, including Super8, which once cost him $300 for three minutes of usable footage. We always feel lucky when we end up in one of his shots.

Thank you for allowing us to capture part of your story, and for all the years of friendship, @emulsion.vhs.

Part of what makes Final Bout so special is the people who participate in it. Whether it be drivers, organizers, media, or spectators. The people are what makes the event and the community; I wanted to focus on that for SSS in 2026. Here’s a few shots I like; enjoy.

Now harden your mind against
cognitive attacks like this one. You are
under no obligation to imagine that
which does not serve you.
