My periods have been getting increasingly worse, each month worse than the last. And today shows that isn’t changing. My period was over a week late, and it’s arrived with a vengeance. Only up side is it didn’t arrive until we were driving back from a camping trip so could have been worse.

My prescribed pain relief isn’t even touching the sides, but I’m doing everything I can to try to make this bearable.

I know I’ll be looking at another surgery, though I’m sure that won’t be for another year or so. I’m due to have an MRI scan soon but I haven’t had the letter through yet. I will probably chase that in the next week or so.

Things I’m using to help atm:
🌷 @getsomedays Cramp Cream (been using for about 4 weeks now and I do really like it)
🌷 @periodharmony patches (life savours, I particularly like them on my lower back)
🌷 @myobiofficial Artemis 2.0 (though I accidentally broke the strap so have just been tucking in my trousers)
🌷 @purespectrumhemp CBD salve (best CBD I’ve tried, expensive but worth it)

I know that locking yourself away is not the best thing for your mental health, I do know that. I also know it’s something I struggle with a lot when I’m feeling low. It’s something I’ve done a lot of. But sometimes I just want to be alone because I feel alone.

I know I’m not alone, not only am I not alone in feeling such grief and resentment for my body, but I’m not alone in my life a support system. I have the most supportive family and partner, and a group of great friends. I have made so many connections on here, online, which genuinely has got me through so much.

But despite all this, when I’ve got bad news about my health, or I’m just feeling angry that my body won’t cooperate, I just want to be alone. I think that’s okay, for a little bit. But I also recognise my mental health impacted by it.

There’s kind of no winning really. But I’m doing my best to not hide away too much.

I often get asked why I’m so passionate about women’s health.Ā The truth is, I don’t think anyone grows up dreaming of becoming an advocate. I certainly didn’t.

I was just a little girl who grew up into a teenager and then a woman who spent years being told her pain was normal, her exhaustion was something everyone experienced, and that she just needed to get on with it.

Years later, after diagnoses, surgeries, fertility treatment, hospital appointments, and more waiting rooms than I can count, I realised thaT soĀ many of us have stories like this.Ā And that’s why I talk about women’s health.

Not because I enjoy sharing the difficult parts, but because I know how much it would have meant to hear someone else talking about them when I was younger.

If sharing my story helps even one person feel less alone, trust their instincts, or seek support a little sooner, then it’s worth it.Ā
