A Frame of Mind

A participatory animation film, exploring the relationship between individual expression and shared human experience.

Most people think animation is just cartoons.

But animation is actually a sequence of individual drawings that only come alive when they're seen together.

That made me wonder...

What if every frame was coloured by a different person?

So I invited more than 160 strangers to each colour one frame of this animation.

The only instruction was to:

"Colour this frame the way this moment feels to you."

No right or wrong colours.
Just one person's interpretation of that moment.

Every frame became a small trace of a different human experience.

When all these 170 frames were stitched together, I realised I wasn't just looking at an animation anymore.

I was looking at different people, different emotions, and different perspectives moving together as one.

Maybe animation isn't just the illusion of life.

Maybe it's evidence that individuality and collectivity depend on each other.

A single frame cannot move.

A single person cannot represent humanity.

But together, both become something larger than themselves.

Individually, we're moments. Together, we form a movement.

I enjoy playing the bottle and have gotten a lot better since this was shot last year @visthar_trust_ ka Bhoomi Habba. I guess your eyes become keener at identifying viable bottles for good sound. This was a good bottle, but some are really great, acoustically! Look for thin metal single layer ones🤣
