Let me introduce myself 💖

I’m Gonca an engineer who loves running marathons, chasing sunrises, trying new things, getting stronger, and occasionally convincing other people to do challenges with me 😂

For a long time, I thought we had to fit into one box.
Be the engineer. Be the athlete. Be feminine.
Be ambitious. Be responsible.

Turns out, I don’t want to choose.

I want to build a career I’m proud of, challenge my body, enjoy my life, dress up when I feel like it, wake up ridiculously early for a sunrise, and keep becoming a stronger version of myself.

And if sharing any part of that encourages another woman to start something she thinks she’s too old for, too scared for, or simply “not the type” for then this little corner of the internet is doing exactly what I want it to do.

So hi, I’m Gonca. Nice to meet you or meet you again 🙏

30 miles around Manhattan for 30 years.

I’m an engineer who became obsessed with staying active, challenging myself, and collecting hobbies that require ridiculous amounts of endurance 😂

The funny part? I had only been outrigger paddling 3–4 times before this. And yesterday I found myself paddling 30.32 miles around the entire island of Manhattan for over 8 hours😭

I was definitely the newbie in the crew, but I was lucky enough to be surrounded by people who encouraged me, taught me, pushed me when I needed it, and made me feel like I belonged there. That’s what made these 30 miles possible 🙏

And there couldn’t have been a better reason to do it celebrating 30 years of New York Outrigger.

I showed up wanting to try something new.
I think I accidentally found a new passion.

Happy 30th anniversary, @newyorkoutrigger
Thank you for letting this newbie be part of such a special day.

Maybe I do want to be an influencer.
Just not in the way you think.

If something I share makes another woman feel stronger, try something that scares her, work toward the life she wants, enjoy that life while she’s building it, or simply stop for a second and realize how far she’s already come… then YES.

That’s exactly the kind of influence I want to have.
