It’s interesting to compare the German watch with a big date I wore yesterday with the one I’m wearing today. While completely different in aesthetics, they do share an essential practical, functional focus on wearability, readability, and ease-of-use that I think is intrinsic to German watchmaking. I can’t think of a more readable, capable perpetual calendar than the one I’m wearing today, with its large date, clear apertures showing the day of the week and month, rotating city bezel to figure out the time in all 24 time zones around the world, and robust dive case. It’s not a watch you need to baby. It’s there to wear! And I do proudly wear the @glashuetteoriginal Sport Evolution Perpetual Calendar on the last day of every month!

Another month passes and my perennial perpetual returns to my wrist. The @glashuetteoriginal Sport Evolution Perpetual Calendar says so much about my collecting journey: offbeat, unexpected, functional, practical, and yes, over the top! This watch is all those things and more. No watch in my collection does so much or says so many things about watch collecting to me. It’s a journey of discovery and unexpected pleasures. I call it my “practical perpetual”. I do that because it’s easy to read, easy to wear, and easy to set. What more could one ask? The dial on the @glashuetteoriginal Sport Evolution Perpetual Calendar sets standards for readability with large lumed hands on a matte black background and with its big date complemented by clear apertures showing the day and month. No microscopic subdials here! It sits within a solid and ergonomic diver case that settles into the wrist nicely and features 100m of water resistance. Finally, you can update all the date indications with a single pusher — one press per day. There’s a second pusher to do the same for the moonphase indication. I love this watch and what it represents so much. That’s why it sits on my wrist for the last day of each and every month, consistently navigating the calendar to the next month, just as I do in life!

Traditions have value, but they can also start becoming a sort of path you follow without thinking. You lose sight of why traditions became traditions in the first place! Well, one of my longest standing watch traditions is wearing this @glashuetteoriginal Sport Evolution Perpetual Calendar on my wrist on the last calendar day of each month. It’s a wonderfully comfortable and practical watch, with its clear time telling, durability and a handy world time rotating bezel. But it’s also a friggin’ perpetual calendar — one of the highest complications in watchmaking! Every month I try to recapture my wonder at this mechanical feat by strapping on this watch and seeing how it navigates the end of the month. In shorter months (like this one), it’s truly inspiring to see the big date start to advance early so that it can cycle through 31 and on to 01 before midnight. To me, this is a thrill beyond words or money. It’s magic! ✨

It’s my chosen companion at the close of every month. I love seeing the magic in action! Like clockwork, the @glashuetteoriginal Sport Evolution Perpetual Calendar navigates our crazy calendar with aplomb, shifting it’s super readable big date and aperture-based day and month indications to advance to the next month at the right time. Last month it had the heavy lift of shifting from February 28th to March 1st. This month it can take a bit of a break with a “normal” 31-day month. I still love the philosophy of this watch as much as the functionality — wearable, readable, practical, and robust. Ready to wear for everyday adventures. It’s not one to be hidden away for safekeeping!

No day is more magical for owners of perpetual calendar watches than today, the 28th of February. If all goes well, tonight is the night where my watch earns its exclusivity with a mechanical date shift all the way through to March 1st. As is the case at the end of each month, my choice for the day is my robust, rugged, and ready @glashuetteoriginal Sport Evolution Perpetual Calendar. It’s the sort of watch you can wear anywhere and for any occasion. Getting up close and personal with my favorite monthly wear, the @glashuetteoriginal #sportevolution #perpetualcalendar. It’s so unusual to see a perpetual calendar in a dive watch, combining a high complication with a very practical, wearable, and robust form factor.
