In the SCUBA handcrafted glass bookend designed by Marie-Rose Kahane, the glass master introduces a single air bubble that is carefully sealed in molten transparent glass.

A moment of sculptural suspension, the result is a minimal design whose pure simplicity elevates any bookshelf.

Sonài, @mollified_venice
Last week!

Sonài is a multimedia exhibition by the Venice-based art collective Mollified (Cosima Montavoci and Lorenzo Passi). Through glassmaking, they explore the fragility of a society shaped by taboos and cultural bigotry. Seeking to subtly raise awareness of issues that are often marginalized, this exhibition is a reflection on “invisible illnesses”, conditions that are often dismissed as psychosomatic despite being undeniably real. The suspended sculptures embrace these illnesses, merging with pill-like forms. Bound by iron plates, they suggest both support and restraint.
Echoing the Venetian word for “sound” while recalling the slur “crazy,” Sonài is an interactive sound installation: Continuous borborygmi and deep, visceral rumblings emerge from the vitreous medium, that intensify as visitors approach and touch the artworks, making, in a way, the unseen perceptible and seen.

Meet the Scenographer: Tessa Sakhi

“The factory is already a garment. I didn’t want to cover it, only stitch into it.” Tessa Sakhi

For Qamīs: Fragments of Dress, architect and designer Tessa Sakhi has developed a scenography inspired by the construction of a garment.

The former Kassem Sugar Refinery remains exposed with its concrete structure, openings, voids and traces of history: raw, heavy, monolithic and marked by time.

The works of more than 50 designers, artists and architects, spanning diverse scales and mediums, come together in dialogue across the building, each becoming part of a larger composition.

Born in Lebanon and based between Venice and Beirut, Tessa Sakhi founded her studio in 2015. Her practice spans multiple disciplines, from cultural heritage and renovation projects to urban interventions, hospitality design and scenography, with a focus on people, materials and the environments they inhabit.

How wonderful to see YALI’s BOBOLI vase in Rose featured in the November issue of @archdigest ! What an honour to be in the same pages as the brilliant Julianne Moore.

Designed by Marie-Rose Kahane and handcrafted in Murano by a skilled team of artisans, the BOBOLI vase is made by applying rows of molten glass horizontally around the body of a mouthblown vessel and then stamping a round imprint into this additional layer of glass. The result is a beautiful high relief that plays with the light to create a mesmerising display of circles within circles.

The ISOLA SIDE TABLES were designed by Marie-Rose Kahane for YALI Glass in 2020. Their rounded, organic forms draw inspiration from the salt marshes of the Venetian lagoon, where islets, shorelines and channels create irregular basins of water.
Each tabletop is handcrafted in cast glass. Using a giant ladle, the molten glass is carefully poured into a steel mould, lightly worked by hand, then transferred to a large kiln where it is allowed to cool gradually over an extended period. Several artisans are involved in this carefully choreographed process, in which precision, timing and experience are integral to the final result.
The thick, smooth glass top captures both the fluid and solid qualities of the material. As the surrounding light changes, its depth and transparency shift, giving the table an almost floating, lake-like quality. A simple burnished iron frame provides an elegant yet sturdy base.
Available in two heights, the Isola Side Tables are made entirely in the Veneto region of Italy.
