The #LightsOnAfterschool celebration isn't over yet: we've got more #LightbulbChallenge photos to share from DCYF-funded programs across San Francisco!

Each photo is a reminder of the people who make afterschool programs so special. From the children, youth, and young adults who participate to the dedicated staff who support them, these programs bring people together, create opportunities, and help build stronger communities.

We're excited to see so many of our grantees taking part in this nationwide celebration, and we're grateful for the work they do throughout the year!

Check out the growing collection of Lightbulb Challenge photos from our grantees and City department partners (link also in bio): www.sf.gov/lights-on-afterschool-2026

The Non-Profit of the Year Award, presented by @kaiserpermanente, honors exceptional non-profit leadership driving impact through resource stewardship, advancing economic opportunity, and total well-being for the communities who need it most.

Be in the room when this year's honorees are celebrated. Tickets for the 2026 Excellence in Business Awards are available. Purchase yours today at Link in Bio.

Founded in 1969, @enterpriseforyouth has served over 25,000 young people to date. Each year, 400+ youth attend workshops that cover topics including interviewing skills, resume and cover letter preparation, money management training, and conflict resolution. They place youth in internships that give them the opportunity to dig deeper into career fields they’re interested in pursuing. Participants who complete their program apply and enroll at higher rates to post-secondary education. Enterprise for Youth sets young people on the right path to achieve career success.

Since 1994, @realoptionsforcitykids, or R.O.C.K. for short, has kept San Francisco youth safe, healthy, and active. As the largest youth development organization in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley, R.O.C.K. provides over 900 children and their families with fun, engaging programs and critical resources all year long.

R.O.C.K.’s mission is to nurture the healthy development of children by listening to their needs and providing opportunities to those who might not otherwise have access. From academic support during the school day to camping trips throughout the summer, R.O.C.K. works directly with public schools to provide programs and services for youth who need it most, from TK through high school and beyond.

From two clubhouses in the Mission and Bernal Heights, @sfmariposakids gives San Francisco kids ages 1 to 11 something increasingly rare: unstructured time to just play. After school programs, summer camps, and early childhood programming all run on the same belief, that free play builds curiosity, independence, and social-emotional growth better than any worksheet. For the families in these neighborhoods, that’s not a nice extra, it’s the foundation.

Our first Impact Report is out NOW!

This year’s theme centered around “creating community”, whether it’s intergenerational conversations at monthly events or matching organizations with professional mentors. From the start to end of this year, our impact could not be possible without our partners, community organization, and supporters guiding us along the way.

From training to a career on the waterfront. ⚓️

The Port of San Francisco’s Rising T.I.D.E.S. Internship and Mentorship Program helps prepare participants for careers in the trades through on-the-job training and mentorship from journey-level Port tradespersons.

For David McNeil, the program opened the door to his next step. After completing Rising Tides, David was promoted to a Pre-Apprentice Waterfront Steward Ambassador and then to General Labor Apprentice with the Port.

Congratulations to David and the entire Rising T.I.D.E.S. graduating class! 👏Thank you to Supervisor @shamannwalton and Port Commissioner Adams for joining us to celebrate this accomplishment.

🏠 $800K? $1.5M? $2M+? 👀

SF is vibrant. Beautiful. Highly desirable. But how much does it cost to call it home? 🏙️

We showed our Young Planners homes currently on the market and asked them to guess the price.

Think you can beat them? 👇

Week 5: Housing Tours 🏡
Well… the timing felt right. 😉

Our final week took us on a different kind of city tour, exploring San Francisco’s housing landscape: from affordability and zoning to redlining and the role SF Planning plays in creating more housing.

🎬 Watched Fault Lines and continued the conversation about affordable housing with director @nhoughte.

🏠🪴 Watched Home Is a Hotel (@homeisahotel) and visited @dignitymoves to see cost-effective housing communities on temporary land.

📋 Learned about the affordable housing lottery and priority list with @sfmohcd.

👷‍♀️🔨 Toured newly built affordable housing at 2550 Irving St. and explored Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) around the City.

That’s a wrap on our summer topics! ⭐️ Which week was your favorite?

🚌 BART. Muni. Caltrain. 🚆
How many more can you name?
Our SF Young Planners had 10 seconds to name as many Bay Area transit agencies as they could. ⏱️
How many did they miss? 👀👇
