We’re excited to share more of the details of last fall’s big Lazy Bear remodel. This post is focusing on the tables. One of the biggest changes, and the one that drove so many other design decisions, was to move away from our long communal tables—once a hallmark of our dinner party days—in favor of more intimate settings.

Chef David (also an avid woodworker) personally sawed up and refinished our old massive slabs into individual tables for each party, per the design from Envelope Art + Design, allowing for more refined service with more tableside finishes.

A luxurious custom leather banquette now graces the East wall of the dining room, and the tables are accented by goldenrod-hued mohair chairs from Audo, adding a touch of elegance and comfort to the space.

Ask Chef @davidbarzelay about the unique challenges of cutting some of these table angles with only wonky live edges on both sides to reference. He would love to get geeky about the jigs involved, the matte oil-based polyurethane that’s his preferred finish, sanding regimens, etc., so if you geek out about woodworking, swipe for some process photos and drop any questions in the comments!
