REVIEW: CALDWELL ACADEMY
Streaming on @superlab__ in TikTok/PineDrama
🎬: @thepallier @enzymefilms

As someone who grew up as a CW girlie, seeing a young adult ensemble cast navigate teen drama the way they did it here was such a nostalgic treat for me and I was sat the entire time while watching the enemies to lovers storyline unfold.

There are no typical vertical villains here, just complex characters with messy moral compasses who make bad decisions. Even - and especially - our heroine Eden (@gracewswanson) made some of the story’s most questionable decisions, and while it was undeniably wrong, we see what drove her to do it. Her pain, her heart, and the pressure of being perfect.

@noahfearnleyy is the bad boy with big emotions as Beckett. He starts off as the campus asshole we love to hate, but he gets most of our sympathy as the story progresses and he shows us more of himself beyond the popular rich kid reputation. That face he made after Eden says possibly the most hurtful thing she could to him? 🥹

Sloan is what happens when the girl who plays by the book gets the villain edit just for having some ambition. In an alternate universe, she could be the lead, but watching this through Eden’s lens she is not a friend. @mariah_moss shines in this role, balancing a strong presence with softer expressions that effectively convey Sloan’s complexity

@griffinwinter_ leaned the most traditional vertical “villain” as Julian - which was actually something I appreciated to kinda make us feel like we were still in vertical territory without going too hard on the villainy. (Also a bit of whiplash after watching him as a nice guy right before this 👀. See previous review)

What I really wish we saw more of was @adamsantacruz and @mmactuj as Henry and Laila. They had a sweet, understated growing friendship that definitely can develop into so much more in the next seasons (which I hope we get after that cliffhanger of an ending!)

The production value is top-notch, adding to the overall viewing experience. That rain scene? Gorgeous lead up to an emotional explosion. I urge everyone to check this out (so I can get my Season 2 with more LaiRy content)

Caldwell Academy! How amazing was Caldwell Academy?! It was a beautifully made storyline. Everyone did excellent portraying their character and delivering every scene they are in with their all. It was definitely worth the wait!!!

First and foremost, I have to talk about my favorite person, @noahfearnleyy as Beckett Langford and how amazing he was. He’s a lacrosse player too?! That’s not a sport you always see in these shows but I loved it. The scene with Beckett and his Dad was powerful and emotional. It made me cry but it was well done.

Eden portrayed by @gracewswanson . She’s focused and determined. That’s why she’s the student body president. I think she put Beckett in his place. It sucks having detention when you didn’t really do anything but they did work through it. The rain scene was a whole other level but I’m here for it.

@mmactuj as Laila was the sweet and caring best friend. She stands up for Eden. She also helped her look after her brother, Henry. She’s the kind of friend everyone needs.

Sloan Van Doren. @mariah_moss delivered an excellent role playing “the mean girl”. I don’t necessarily think “villain” is the right word. I think her character has been hurt and she has insecurities and she’s just trying to stay relevant. I’m used to seeing her play the female lead but I know she does so wonderful with any role she plays.

Henry portrayed by Adam. He may be troubled but also displayed his vulnerability which Adam portrayed perfectly!

Julian is full of himself. He’s the kind of guy to stay away from. He sweet talks his way to get what he wants. He took advantage of Eden because she is the student body president. I’m glad Eden refused and left him during that party scene.

Beckett’s Dad portrayed by Scott. He’s tough. He wants Beckett to carry on the Langford name to continue the family’s legacy because he’s expected to keep up with the reputation of being a “Langford”. Scott did exceptionally well playing this character especially in that powerful and emotional scene when he confronted Beckett about the school calling him.
